So with the fresh start - I'm trying to be more active on threads that I read instead of just lurking. Summer is when I have more time to read. I was also distraught to lose this thread, I have a huge word doc with all the recommendations. I actually peamailed Batya to ask if she was moving anywhere with her book list before I found this board.
This week I read two young adult books -
Looking for Alaska by John Green - It's about a prep school in Alabama and some kids that don't really fit in but find each other. I love him, he has as great handle on teens. His books are both depressing and hopeful. If you've read TFioS, this one is not as gut wrenching.
Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein. It's about two female friends during WWII - one's a pilot the other a spy. Just joined a book club at my local book store - YA books only which I love. This was my first book for the group. I did not really like it. Thought the historical component (as I love historical fiction) but thought the author did a terrible job with the voices. Couldn't really get into for that reason.

I was a lurker on Batya's threads but as people said earlier, I am known to know all the great books - mostly due to the reading thread. So, I am going to start participating!
I just finished The Fever by Megan Abbott. I have never read anything by her before but this was an interesting read. It is about several girls in a town that all fall I'll and no one knows why. There are theories from toxins I. The high school to vaccinations. It was a decent read, although I am not sure I loved it.

I have read the first 2 books in James Patterson's Women's Murder Club series and have started on number 3. I set a goal on Good Reads this year to read 40 books. Thus far I have read 32 books! I hope to exceed my goal!

I am another one that loved Batya's book thread. This week I finished The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. It was a really wonderful book that sucked me in from the get go. I have read many books on race relations this year. It seems to be a theme for me for some reason! I really loved that the author did not make the relationship between the 2 main characters easy. I felt it was so much more honest to see the conflicted feelings they had for each other. This week I am reading the new book by Francine Rivers. She has written many wonderful stories and I am hoping this will be another one!

I finished Catherine Called Birdy today. It is a YA book set in the 12th century. I enjoyed it and found Catherine's character quite fun. The ending was a bit predictable though. I am still working my way through The Far Pavilions and loving it. I am on page 561.

Hi, I'm so happy to find this thread. I read A LOT, so I try to throw in some classics with all the other junk I find to read Yesterday I finished Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. He's an amazing author, but the injustice done to Tess by the males around her was infuriating. So I had to read Yellow Tale by Tiffany Goik. Total booze book about a crazy alcoholic - quick, easy reading. I'm also reading Goldfinch, which is very long. It's lost me for the time being, although it's got a ton of positive reviews so I'll stick it out. Happy reading, friends!

Last week I read The One Plus One by Jojo Moyes and LOVED it. Its been a while since a book kept me up late at night because I didnt want to stop reading- this one definitely did! I also finished The Matchmaker by Elin Hildebrand- it was OK. I Have read all of Elin Hildebrands books and enjoy them, but this one was not my favorite. I am currently reading Little Mercies by Heather Gudenkauf. So far it's really good.

I'm reading The Promise of Happiness by Erin Kaye. I love books set in Ireland and when I was there a few years ago I picked up a book by Sheila O'Flanagan. The ones I would really like to read aren't available in the US though. Luckily I've found enough that are available to keep me busy for a while.

I guess Batya didn't come around yet *sigh* Oh well, here's what I read the past week or so:
first up was Shine,Shine,Shine by Lydia Metzer. This was an Amazon daily deal I picked up and it's a weird little book but a good one! Basic story line is about a boy with Aspergers and a girl born without any hair meet as children and become best friends and eventually fall in love and marry. Then the girl, Sunny, feels as if she has to become "normal" according to society's standards in order to be a good mother to her and Maxon's( the brilliant Aspergers robotic engineer) son. The twist is Maxon ends up going into space with a crew that is setting up a colony on the moon and using his robots to do that. It took me awhile to get onto this one but I really liked it.
I just finished Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam Jr. This is the book "October Sky" was based on and it was originally published in 1998. I really really enjoyed it and as much as I loved the movie, the book was that much better.
I just started a "fluffy" book- The Last Original Wife by Doryhea Benton Frank. Set in the south ( like me) , the main character is the last "original" wife of her husband's friends-meaning she hasn't been replaced by a trophy wife "yet."

He is such an interesting person who has led an extraordinary life.
