You can tell I've been out of the loop. I usually buy paper pads at A C Moore or Michael's, never paying more than $9.99 for 48 sheets of paper. Sometimes they are on sale for $7.99, or the one time I picked up 3 pads at $5.66 each. So, all that to say, my face was all when I was just looking at ACOT and saw that each sheet of foiled 12x12 pattern paper is $1.29 or $1.89! Okay, so apparently I am cheap because though I like so many of those papers, I don't $1.89 a sheet love them. Do I have to hand back in my Pea card now? Am I out of the club? Seriously though, will there be a ceiling of how much we are charged for sheets of paper, or will we be paying $2.50 a sheet in the near future? Maybe the manufacturers can start adding in actual gold flecks and charging ten dollars a sheet.

You can still get some 48-page paper pads with foil for $10 or under although it will be select sheets and not all. I have picked some up at M's in the last 6 months and the Dear Lizzy paper pad from this spring had lots of foil too ($9.99 online at Joann's if you keep an eye out). But yes, I have paid the full amount for single sheets I absolutely loved. It's made me seriously consider getting a Minc, but I have barely used my Silhouette so I know I won't do much better with the Minc. And then I end up hoarding the specialty papers anyway for that special project that never comes along so....yeah, total waste of that extra money.

Given the current MSRP on many double-sided, non-specialty papers is $0.99-$1.09/each, the higher cost of foiled & other specialty papers doesn't surprise me. I dislike the foil trend, so never buy either the papers or embellishments.

I know, I have a hard time paying more the $1 a sheet.

Since I've been scrap (collecting) for several years now, I rather consider my stash a hedge against inflation! I can recall when good quality, lush, heavy, naturally textured cardstock was 35¢ a sheet!!! Imagine that!! So - yes, I object, and am a bit horrified to see, foiled (or enameled or otherwise fancy finished) pattern paper well over $1.00 per sheet. I do like the look sometimes, so I am not adverse to making my own foiling with the old fashioned gold flake stuff.

That is nothing compared to the crazy inflation politics of imported scrap goods. The only scrap store in my country to import the collection cardstock stickers, thickers and ephemera packs has really increased the profit margin on them with the recent releases. The trendier the brand, the higher the inflation percentage (Crate Paper and Pink Paislee are way more expensive than, say, Pebbles). Crate Paper 12x12 chipboard set is 10.55€ or US$12.38. Double the price from the US. I can't keep scrapping if this trend continues. I usually skip most foiled papers because they've become too expensive. I have to really really like one to buy it. Don't get me started on foiled/glitter specialty papers. There's another big ouch!

I like the foiled look, especially for card making. I have tried to recreate it various ways, with heat embossing, stamping or writing with glue then using the various foil sheets, or stencils with various embossing gels or creams.
There are also specialty tools for this. I have the WRMK fuse tool, but like most of the cheaper ways to achieve an effect, it does not work nearly as well as it seemed to on the tutorials. I have tried the Minc, but to use it on printed images, I would need to buy that electronic tool plus a laser printer, so have not bought one yet.
Obviously all of this costs money. If I see foiled pp I like, I buy it, and accept that it will cost a little more than regular pp or cs. U especially love the look of copper foiled onto vellum, (but also love the Christmas reds and greens) and picked up a lot of that last fall. Was it BoBunny or Simple Stories that was marketing those?

That is nothing compared to the crazy inflation politics of imported scrap goods. Same in New Zealand. Everything is pretty much double the US price - regular price for Thickers is NZ$12.99 (US$9.75), 12x12 patterned paper is $2 per sheet, basic cardstock is $1.50 per sheet, die cut packs range from $9-13 and a 12x12 sticker sheet is $8.50.

Foil isn't really my thing, but I like it far more than poorly glittered sheets of paper from a few years ago. Doodlebug and MME were a nightmare.
I'm not much of a budget minded person, I buy what I want whatever the price. Actually I find that I never use the paper pads because it's too much of the same paper over and over. I don't care for thin paper or stuff with shiny accents. I'm glad we have choices.

I stopped buying paper packs years ago because I usually only loved a few of the papers, and the quality wasn't as good as individual sheets. (Individual sheets are usually a lot thicker.)
But, yes. In general, it's crazy how much paper prices have risen over the last few years. Especially in light of the fact that quality has declined at the same time.
I have really made an effort to use the paper I hoard lately. One of my art teachers once told me that we tend to think of our supplies as "too precious", and then end up with a bunch of stuff we never use. She encouraged us to work with our best materials and to remember that, even if we couldn't find the exact same thing down the road, we'd probably find something of equal or better quality to fall in love with.
Of course, I still hoard Sassafras Lass and October Afternoon and Crate and Hambly from before AC bought them.....

Not paper pack or foil paper related but I will pay for quality supplies. $$$$ does not always equate to quality but I support companies trying to make great quality innovative products. Like Hambly. I still miss Hambly. I would gladly pay $$$$ for some more of their lovely hand crafted transparency sheets.

I don't love paying retail prices for anything, but I do and will even for speciality paper if I can't wait for a sale.

I like buying individual papers. Yes, they are more expensive per piece (especially if they are specialty papers), but when was the last time you used up every sheet in a huge paper stack? I would rather pay more for what I really love (and will use) than have a bunch of stuff. So I am in the buy what I like regardless of the price camp.

but when was the last time you used up every sheet in a huge paper stack? meekly raising handI usually do. I currently have four pads of paper in my stash, each having had 48 sheets originally. One has 7 sheets left, second has 3 sheets left, third has four sheets left, and fourth only has one sheet left. But I'm a "make it work" type of scrapper, so I'm determined to use it if I buy it.

But I'm a "make it work" type of scrapper, so I'm determined to use it if I buy it. Hopping on board of the finish-those-damn-pads (ETA: that makes it sound far more "period gore" than intended ) train. I bought a Christmas-themed one on super sale and I'm going to use that sucker up if it sorta-but-not-really kills me. I don't care it was 70% off, that's still money I poured into it and I'm going to get my money's worth (and then some) out of it. Everything needs to get used. I don't care if it's for layouts, PL cards, DD, decorating gifts, making tags, décor. That pad can't remain in my stash half-full for X amount of years. Nope.

I'm wondering would versamark be sticky enough to buff some foil down on or maybe a glue stamp pad? Has anyone tried this? You could create endless images from the stamps that way. I'd never get a Minc because of i would be limited to their designs. Most of which I wouldn't like. I already spend too much money on this craft. I can't justify buying a printer for this purpose. I already have a printer for every day needs.

As a long time scrapper I can remember when paper was cheaper but specialty papers have usually been about twice the cost of the regular ones. Fortunately for me a little foil, mesh, or mulberry goes a long way.
I feel bad for you scrapper outside the US having to pay those prices. Totally sucks.
