I admit we are connected to our tv too much but we rarely watch anything live. We are thinking about ditching our DIRECTV and going with HULU but I'm sorta afraid I will regret it.
I read you can watch live channels on HULU so I signed up for the 7 day free trial but I don't see where I can do that. I also read its $39.99 a month but when I signed up its only $13.99. I'm so confused!
Does anyone have HULU? Will we regret getting rid of DirectTV?

We cut the cord this weekend. We bought a Roku and decided on Hulu and Sling TV. So far so good, but it is a little early to tell.

I have not even tried that yet. I have streamed quite a few things...but I have not tried watching live yet.

I have Hulu with no commercials and with tax it is $12/month. I can't watch live tv on it, but things are in there the day after they air.
I can watch the major networks live (CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC, PBS, and all their local affiliates) free with no subscriptions via a cheap antenna ($9.99) that I bought at Walmart.

We're looking at ditching cable and signing up with Hulu Live. My understanding is that Hulu Live will have live broadcast of some of the broadcast networks and some of the cable channels like HGTV and Food Network. As part of the package you also get the part of Hulu that plays already broadcast shows and movies.
We currently have cable with the lower tier HD channels. We have 2 TVs, so I have cable cards in my TiVo and DH has a cable box. DH doesn't have delayed viewing capabilities, but would like them. We own our router and we'll continue to get internet thru the cable company.
We will continue to pay for Netflix but will no longer pay for TiVo. Hulu regular will be part of the Hulu live package, so that cost will effectively disappear. If the Hulu Live for our area doesn't include CBS, we will pay the monthly fee during time of year our favorite shows are on each week, maybe. LOL
I already have an Amazon Fire TV and we just bought DH an Amazon Fire Stick, so we have the equipment needed to make the switch. Just need to make the calls.

We ditched cable earlier this summer. We have Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, and a couple of subscriptions through Amazon - right now HBO and Starz. When I called to cancel cable, they offered for us to keep just the local channels on one TV and raise the speed of our internet for free (so we don't pay for the local channels). So we did that. On another TV we have a digital antenna that pulls in the local channels. I also purchased season passes to a couple of series on channels we don't get - still much, much cheaper than our old cable bill.
No regrets! We haven't missed a thing and we're saving a ton.

I'm wanting to know more about the Hulu Live. I haven't been able to find much about it. The website (from what I can see) doesn't give a lot of info.

I have Hulu and don't really use it much. Sling gets a lot more use in our household. We dumped DirecTV after years and years. Feels great!
We have Apple TV with:
1. Netflix 2. HBONow (just for Game of Thrones for a couple months) 3. CBS all access (just for a few months for Big Brother lol) 4. over the air antenna for local channels 5. Amazon prime 6. Sling 7. Hulu (least used)

I don't think we will ever be able to ditch Direct, as much as DH would love to. He is a huge racing and NASCAR fan and wouldn't be able to see all the races and race car shows he enjoys 24/7.
Because we have never seriously considered cutting the cord, I have not thought about how it might affect what I watch. The cost of Direct is become more and more expensive. Let us know how it goes.

We dropped Dish ($75 a month), bought an antenna ($25) at Home Depot, have Hulu ($12), Netflix ($12?) and Amazon Prime ($99 a year? so $9 a month), and have WAY more to watch than we ever had on Dish and are saving $40 a month... totally worth it.
DH is going to sign up for some sports thing in the fall so he can watch football...

I can watch the major networks live (CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC, PBS, and all their local affiliates) free with no subscriptions via a cheap antenna ($9.99) that I bought at Walmart. This only works if you live relatively close to the point of broadcast. I live about 2 hours away from that, and an indoor antenna (any kind) will not pick up anything. I never got rid of my out door terrestrial antenna that is up on a tower. I can pick up all the broadcast channels with that, but with some loss during heavy storms (there was no loss before the new and improved digital change).

I have Hulu and don't really use it much. Sling gets a lot more use in our household. We tried Hulu and found we didn't use it much so dumped it. We ditched uVerse back in November and I don't miss it at all. In fact, even with all the other options we have, I find I am watching less tv which means I am getting more things done like sewing/quilting and reading! Our current set up: * Digital antenna for local channels * Apple TV * Amazon Prime * NetFlix * Directv Now (Go Big plan and they threw in HBO for free for a year) * Sling Tv (DD's account that I log in to because they have more On Demand options) * CBS All Access YouTube TV is starting up here in Houston. We will check it out and see if it looks like something we might be interested in. I'm thinking it could potentially replace the Directv Now? Will have to see exactly what it offers.

I don't know about Hulu live, I had Hulu but the only thing I watched on it was The Handmaid's Tale so I dropped it.
I signed up for Directv Now, which has live channels. The package I have includes 50 or 60 channels for $35/mo and HBO is an additional $5. For local channels I have a digital antennae.

We just got the Fire Stick. I've been using mine 100% (Chinese & Korean soaps!) of the time and DH uses it 50% of the time so I think we are ready to cut the cord. I think we will subscribe to Netflix and Hulu in the near future (already have Amazon Prime).
So the question is, do we still need basic cable or just the internet? I have not watched any of the local channels, although DH does.

If you live where you can get a digital signal, you can use an inexpensive digital antenna to get your local channels and you don't need cable. The only reason we kept the cable on one TV is because it was free.

Thanks, Merge. I think we should be able to use the antenna then.

We were just looking into a drop of cable and change to something new. We'd save $40 a month for 2 years to leave cable and use the phone company and direct tv. I need my local channels and I must be able to record shows. We do have an 18 year tower antennae that may still work. Just have to make that call! It's nice to see other options here.
