Hi everyone. I wanted to order some stamps from The Ton, and found their official supplier here in Canada is Maple Syrup Designs. They didn't have everything I wanted in stock, so I sent the owner an email a couple of weeks ago. She confirmed the prices for everything and told me it would take a few weeks to get everything in. She also said her prices included taxes and specifically said,
"It is worth noting that of you spend $75, shipping is free."
I told her I would wait to order until everything was in stock. She emailed me today and told me I should check the website since everything was in. I very happily went and hemmed and hawed over everything I wanted, so I could stay within budget. When I was ready to check out, the shipping wouldn't update despite the code I found on her Instagram, so I placed the order anyway and clicked on local pickup, thinking it would fix the issue (I got a little too enthusiastic to fix it). I sent her an email telling her what I did, and just got a reply saying that shipping is free when you spend $90 and she can send me an invoice for the flat rate shopping or I can spend another $14 to get free shipping.
This has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not quite sure how to proceed. Is it fair for me to expect her to honour what she said in her original email, since there was no mention that this was a limited time offer?

the original 'spend $75 and get free shipping' didn't have an expiration date listed, right? If not, then I would think she should honor her original statement. In my opinion, she changed the terms on you after the fact.

In fact, part of the reason for emailing her originally was because the Shipping section on her website said to contact her for shipping rates. Thanks for the validation!

If I were you, I'd jump to the TOS on the website and grab screenshots as well as save the page with the shipping terms on the waybackmachine. If such a page exists. If not, I'd ask her to honour the offer of free shipping with $75 in purchases. This is definitely not ok and you're right in not feeling fine with it. ETA: just read her website does not have a shipping rate page. Don't hesitate to email back letting her know you filled your cart and planned out your purchases according to her previous statement of offering free shipping with $75 worth of purchases. I would probably ask her that if this offer has expired or changed since your last exchange unbeknownst to you, the order is cancelled. I'm not really one who enjoys being taken advantage of though.

Thank you so much! I responded saying that there was no mention of the free shipping being a limited time offer, and thankfully she agreed not to charge me this time. I do appreciate that she did that, but her response was still a little snarky, so I'm glad to read that other people agree that I wasn't over-reacting. This community is awesome!

Did you copy and paste her first email she sent saying free shipping for $75? I don't see how she could change the price if she (and you) have documentation via email. Glad you were able to get the free shipping after all.

Glad you were able to get the free shipping after all. It didn't come to that, thank goodness. The whole situation just made me feel so anxious, because I didn't want to do her wrong, but I really did curate my list given the free shipping at $75 quote. Thank you for the validation!

I'm considering ordering some The Ton stamp sets from her as well. It's depressing how much more expensive these stamps are here in Canada, though. Thanks for sharing your experience, I will confirm the free shipping amount with her before I place my order.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I will confirm the free shipping amount with her before I place my order. I hear you on those prices! But it looks like The Ton's stamps are generally priced quite high, and they don't offer any coupons on their site either, so I was ok with the prices at this Canadian store. Other than the hiccup over shipping, her service was very good.

Yeah, I personally would agree with Sleepingbooty. You could just cancel the order if she insist to make you pay for the shipping. I really hate it if a store does this to me.
