We talk a lot about how we wish HGTV had more decorating and less home buying/selling shows these days. This popped up on my FB feed, and I had fun reminiscing. I want more shows that feature simple decorating tips (as opposed to full-on renovation) because I like to change things up a lot, and can't always rip out cabinets or tear down a wall... www.fame10.com/entertainment/11-cancelled-hgtv-shows-we-wish-would-make-a-comeback/1/

They weren't listed but I miss Clean House and Clean Sweep. Maybe they weren't on HGTV.

They weren't listed but I miss Clean House and Clean Sweep. Maybe they weren't on HGTV. I think they were TLC. I loved those shows. It made my little left-brained organizational nut very happy. Plus Neicy Nash was a great (and slightly annoying) host. I watched all of the shows mentioned in the article except the Kitty Bartholomew show. I liked that most of them taught you how to do things and look at things with a designer's eye. It taught you about color and how the eye sees things. Now it is a bunch of people walking through houses poo pooing them and telling the viewer how they should be done. I still watch them, but all I really know now is that open concept + ship lap + grey = $$. I don't care for grey (in my house), so I get very excited when a designer goes with a different color scheme.

I have heard that Joanna is quitting Fixer Upper because she wants to promote her new skin care line and Chip doesn't want to do the show without her so he is going too. I do wish they would bring back the decorating shows. I don't watch HGTV much any more and that is the main reason. So tired of real estate shows.

I did love Designer's Challenge and Landscaper's Challenge. The format was a well edited 30 minutes of information not 60 minutes of dragged out remodel with hidden problems that threaten to derail things every week. Divine Design was my absolute favorite.

I've learned that plus what a pergola is (although I think they are stupid) and that every kitchen apparently needs an island

With HGTV and Food Network's parent company Scripp's being bought by Discovery, I doubt the programming is going to improve either.

She will quit the national show and lose the force that drives people to their store and business, so she can focus on skin care. HA HA!

I miss all of the decorating shows. I hate that ALL they show now is house hunters(and all it's variations)/renovation/flip shows.

If they aren't put into use, yes they would be useless. But they originated for a place to give vining plants a support, like wisteria. My parents use theirs to hang potted plants. It provides an additional shade to the end of their patio.

I miss the designs by Candace. I also miss Sandra Riminato as a host.
What was the show where a woman in addition to designing rooms had a series where she renovated her own house. I feel like she was from the northeast and she used to find one antique piece to use in each room?

Are you talking about Sarah Richardson? She is Canadian. She has had a bunch of shows including Sarah's House and Sarah's Cottage, where she worked on her own properties.
I miss her earlier shows like Design Inc where sometimes the budget was tiny!

Yes, I always thought pergolas were stupid, too, but my sister did it right, like voltagain said, and it's beautiful. I miss Designing Cents.

We need one on our deck at the lake cabin because it has full southern exposure in the afternoon and it's too hot to sit out there without something to break it up and provide some shade. My BFF's DH put one on their deck at their house and now it's their favorite place to hang out. IMO a pergola is much more decorative than a sunsetter shade.

I love Sarah Richardson, too.
I'd watch Clean Sweep again. I loved it, even if it was not HGTV.

I have also learned that IF an article has SPONSORED above it, it is an infomercial and none of them have proven true. I told my husband he couldn't open any more articles that say sponsored above them because he kept telling me the Kelly Ripa was leaving to sell skin care too.

I loved Clean Sweep. Peter Walsh was amazing. I just read his book. He could make every single one of his clients cry. Oh my gosh, the way he would try to throw out something and then the client would tell a sob story about the person who owned it before them. You knew it was going to be showcased in the home if it was a really good story. If not, he took a picture of it and put it in a scrapbook for the client.

I miss those old shows. I have a friend who used to call Decorating Cents Decorating Nonsense- think that started after he watched the painting the chair episode. HGTV used to be my go to channel, but no more. I cannot stand those House Hunter shows...

The show with Nancy golden ( I think she's Nate berkus' mom) and Linda Applewhite. I think they made guest appearances. Does anyone remember the name? I never watch HGTV anymore. I can't stand house hunters.
On TLC, Christopher Lowell's show with his 7 layers of design philosophy. He was my favorite.

I'm so tired of shows where the people *only* have $80K for renovations, so they'll be really tight pressed to decide what gets changed and what doesn't. I want a show to tell me how I can change the mood of my room with a few bucks here and there.

Decorating Cents was one of my favorites! So was Color Splash. I forgot about Divine Design, but I used to like that one too. When House Hunters was new and was interspersed among the decorating shows, I used to enjoy it. Now, not-so-much. It's the same episode over and over and over again--sometimes with different people. Now I have to go look up what a pergola is....
