I love that she has worked hard to make this exchange happen! It will be fun for her to have the seasons upside down and backward from what she is used to experiencing. I imagine she is likely to have her first white Christmas. You are a brave mom, polz.

Awesome! Many years ago my brother left New Jersey and went to Baker University in Kansas. He loved it out there and never came back home to New Jersey. He eventually got married and they raised a family. Our family visited several times and dreamed of relocating since the atmosphere and people are so warm and friendly but DH job kept us on the east coast.
Four years ago my oldest DD and her husband were visiting the Kansas family and while there my SIL found a perfect job and they relocated. I miss them terribly, but they are so happy in Kansas. It is a wonderful place and will be a great experience for your daughter.
Sending all my best wishes for safe travel and great adventures in the States.

I was going to comment on the syrup also, but I see a few others beat me to it. Definitely needs to be in the checked bag. I'm assuming that the bag in the photo is NOT the checked bag because I wouldn't trust the airlines with Teddy all the way from NZ to Kansas! Good luck to her! I hope it goes well and that she has an amazing year.

How fun! We just drove through Kansas last week- We're in Colorado and DD and DSIL live in Kansas City MO, so most of our 8-hour drive was spent in Kansas. There's a cute welcome center on the west side of Kansas that has Wizard of Oz photo ops, and a Wizard of Oz museum near the east side of the state. Other DD stopped there once and liked it.
I'm curious where in Kansas she'll be since we've driven through there often (but totally understand if you don't want to share that).

Hi Peas. Thank you for your kind thoughts and pms. I hope DD meets some nice Americans like you guys (or is that yáll? lol) DD left at 6.55am this morning (Wednesday 9th August in New Zealand). She will arrive at JFK 25 hours after she left here (Wednesday 9th August in the US). All liquids were double bagged and packed in her luggage. Teddy is in the carryon. I cried and cried and cried buckets. In my native language how I feel is called mokemoke. But it traslates as meaing lamenting, fretful and inconsolable. Like a baby that cries for it's Mama. There is no exact equivalent English word. I'm really happy for DD. In the words of Winnie the Pooh, 'How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard? This is DD and a friend who is also going to Kansas today. They just meet at 4am this morning, but have been forging an online friendship. The world is small. They will get to know each other well in the 25 hour flight!

I would say disconsolate- unconsolable. Hugs and good thoughts for you and your daughter.
