Hi Peas. Only one more sleep until my DD moves to Kansas to do her senior year of highschool. Well, Kansas via Sydney - Australia, LA, New York (three days there). Arggggh! Mama bear is not ready. Did I say Arrrrrgh! So far from New Zealand. My baby is not a baby anymore. The most important things are packed. This is DH's Teddy bear from the 70s. He has the original name of 'Teddy'. Hope he enjoys himself. At least he won't get hungry on the plane :-) Many peas have been lovely to me. Hope she meets lots of nice Americans.

Wow - that sounds like an amazing experience for her! (And a sad one for you.) How did she get this wonderful opportunity? She is an exchange student. So a combination of a lovely family choosing her and DD working hard to raise $12,000 to pay for it. I've only ever been to Australia so I am beyond proud of her to be spreading her wings.

Best wishes to your daughter. I know she'll miss you a lot but I hope she isn't overwhelmed with homesickness. And I hope her time here in the states brings her lifelong friends who will sustain her with their love and support while she misses you. And most of all... I hope she has the time of her life. Hugs, mama.

Make sure she sees the Wizard of Oz before she goes. She'll need to know the "We're not in Kansas anymore" reference.

Safe travels to your dd! I'm from Los Angeles and moved to the Kansas City suburbs. Tell her the weather is perfect right now. It's currently 77 degrees with low humidity. Of course, it's the Midwest, so that could drastically change in an hour. But it's glorious at the moment.

Hoe exciting! I live in Russia as an Exchange Student at 16. Your daughter will grow so much in the time she gone! Be proud that you've raised a daughter who wants to explore and learn about other cultures.
I am quite certain your daughter will have the time of her life!

Wow Polz what a fantastic opportunity for her. Will this be her last year of NZ school? How does that work if she wants to go to university?
I have several friends who have had their 15 year olds go to overseas exchanges for 3 months and they have a wonderful time. A colleague currently has a 16 year old French boy staying with her for 6 months.
I hope you daughter has an amazing time.

Wow! How exciting and scary all at the same time. Such an adventure! How long will she be here in terms of months and will she get to come home at all, like at Christmas? You are a stronger parent than I to be giving her this wonderful opportunity. The flight seems daunting.
My neighbor just left yesterday to go visit her adult daughter in Auckland and told me it would be a full 24 hours from when she stepped out her door to when she would land. We are in Colorado. And her daughter left for NZ right after graduation in 2006 because she fell in love with your country when she visited during the Olympics that Australia hosted. She is now a doctor:) and says she will never live in the US again. Everything I hear makes me want to visit. I hope your daughter returns home with equally wonderful stories of the US.

I feel your pain!!! My dd (just turning 18) is leaving in 2 weeks to spend a year in Banff, AB (4 hours by plane from us). It's so hard to be excited for her & desperately sad for me all at the same time. Thank God for FaceTime!!
and yes that syrup & the can of milo need to be in a checked bag not carry on
