I just read that it affects 5-7% of the population and men more than women. Huh. I have it and it's getting worse. And it hurts when it grows. I'm really only semi-whining- there are worse things.
Does yours continue to grow? Have you considered surgery? The only thing my dentist can tell me is I would have to have it removed if I ever needed dentures. He's not a bundle of information, that one. But it is getting to be a problem for me. They told me it's genetic but no one in my family has it other than me. Tell me about yours...

I had to google that; never heard of it before. I would think it would be annoying, and could / would cause some discomfort if it gets in your way. I would imagine removal surgery would probably be done by an oral surgeon... could you consult with one to find out what your chances of it growing back are, if it was to be removed?

Yes I have torii, but they only cause me pain when I have to bite down on the xray plates at the dentist. They don't interfere with anything so I haven't pursued surgery. I've been fortunate to have really strong teeth so hopefully I'll never need dentures.
My aunt has them, she's the only other person I know that does.

Imagine going through the surgery and it grows back?!? OMG- it would put me over the edge. It's like an alien life force that lives under my tongue. SaveSave

I don't think mine have really grown much in the past couple decades. Now I'm worried they'll start growing some day. If that happens I'll consider surgery! I'm sorry you're having trouble with it

I've never considered surgery for mine. I actually thought it was normal until my dentist's assistant pointed them out to my dentist and she acted like she hadn't seen it much.
Mine don't hurt at all and don't really bother me. I don't think that mine have grown much in awhile.

You can have surgery to remove them but they can grow back.

I've been fortunate to have really strong teeth so hopefully I'll never need dentures. Ditto. I have them on both sides and every single time I get those stupid bite wing X-rays I want to cry. A day or two later I end up with ulcerations on them. I've considered having them removed once or twice but the thought of having oral surgery sounds way worse than the tori. Mine have grown over the years and sometimes I wake up and I know I've bitten my tongue because I don't have room in there. SaveSave

I have it on both sides, too. I never noticed that it grew (grows) until I felt some soreness and kinda pieced it together. The bigger it gets now, the more I "feel" it grow and the discomfort that comes with. And getting a nut or seed stuck down there?!?! Quite unpleasant. SaveSave
