I haven't scrapbooked for at least a year. Maybe as long as two. Dejunking and renovating our house, then selling it and moving halfway across the country were a higher priority. I did make cards and mini albums (minus photos) just to have something to keep me sane.
We moved into our new home in the fall. Lots of family challenges happened right after, so I just kept making cards, and recently I started a new mini album. Just going through photos seemed overwhelming.
I realized that I needed to start with some new photos. I have photos already from a long time ago, but I needed to start with something I could be more excited about. I will be picking them up today.
If anyone else is trying to get back to scrapbooking again after a hiatus, maybe we can encourage each other with tips and layouts. Feel free to post them here.

Yes, I think you are on the right track -- start with something that excites you. Whether that is certain photos, a paper collection, or whatever, just get started with that and once you get your mojo back you can keep on going and start catching up.

I have been mostly sidetracked from scrapbooking for about a year, after I finished some albums. I've been working on other papercrafting, but really want to get back to scrapping again. We're going on vacation, but this will definitely be on my radar for September, so I'll check back in with you after that!

I recently started scrapbooking at home for the first time in ...forever. What got me motivated was my new Espon xp640 printer (under $100 and prints pics from my phone) So I can take the pic or get the pic and scrap it right away. It's so motivating.

scrapnnana, join the gallery. I would love to see your layouts. I paper scrapbooked from 2000-2008. Then I took a hiatus. I digi scrapped from 2011-2014. I have recently figured out I missed the paper and have started up again. I am having so much fun with it. I feel like I just want to scrap and scrap right now. My biggest hang up, though, is supplies. I sold all my scrapbook stuff in 2011. So I have been slowly buying things and getting back into it. I would say, look for some pictures that motivate you and start with them. And do only what you like. If you prefer mini albums, then do mini albums. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I usually need a break after completing a large project. My breaks are a few weeks though. When I feel like I want to get back into it, I watch videos of things I haven't ever tried. Most of the time they just inspire me and I don't try the new technique, but seeing someone else do it in 20 minutes or less at least gets me excited about it.

I took a multi-year hiatus when my life got complicated and I went on survival mode and found it very hard to get back to scrapbooking as well. It was overwhelming and what worked for me was a combination of Youtube videos for inspiration and changing formats at the beginning. I've always been a slow, perfectionist kind of scrapper. Sometimes I'd agonize over a layout forever. So instead of trying to pick up with traditional 12x12 layouts, I discovered traveler's notebooks. For some reason I found the smaller size to be completely freeing! Simple layouts came together quickly and if I didn't love a layout, no big deal - I just flipped the page and went on to the next. I couldn't use as much product either, so it took away all the angst. The TN layouts were the gateway to getting back to regular scrapping. And having a better phone to take pictures and a way to print at home, which I had never had before, completed the circle. I think you're right, OP, that starting with new pictures is a good idea. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/nod.jpg.gif)

Starting with the latest photos is a great idea. You can then think about your scrapbooking as "fun" instead of "need to catch up" kind of activity. If you get on a roll after playing with your most recent photos, you can always go back to the older photos you have.
When I haven't scrapped for awhile, I use sketches and sb challenges to get me going. Check out the monthly challenges on this site, and dive in anywhere, whether this month's or those that are archived.
If I am scrapping a particular event, it's nice to have some new product to play with when scrapping it. The manufacturers have lots of inspiration on line for how to use their stuff, so that helps me too.
Glad you are getting back into the game!

Are you interested in Youtube process videos? There have been a few threads here with lots of suggestions for videos. Those could inspire you. Also, Pinterest if you're not into videos and would rather just look at a picture of the final product. Scraplifting could also help you get back into the swing of things.
I hope you don't feel guilty or in any way bad about about not scrapping. If so, work on letting those feelings go so you can enjoy your hobby and have fun with it.
Welcome back to scrapping!

Thanks for the encouragement and comments.
I now have in hand some new pictures to scrap, so hopefully they will help me get going.
No, I don't feel guilty for not scrapping, but I do want to get back to it. Sometimes it's just getting started that is the hardest.

I went through a 4 year period of not scrapping.(Move, divorce, working overtime, no where but the kitchen table to scrap)- I stored everything away for 4 years. It wasn't until I moved into my house and had a little craft area set up that my interest peaked. I purged my supplies and set up my craft area. It still took me a while to scrap until I looked a lot on Pinterest, and took a lot of recent photos and then I went from there. I have small periods of no mojo, but have done almost 4 albums in the last 2 years. When I really hit a scrapping block, I took Victoria Marie's Layering classes and learning new techniques helped get the mojo going again.
Lately I've been watching a lot of YT and that has helped as well.

Maybe you could look into a different way of scrapping? I did my family albums the traditional way from 1998-about 2010 in the 8.5x11 size. I switched to 12x12 using divided sheet protectors and doing I guess what is called pocket scrapping. I like to see completed albums, I'm a simple scrapper, and I enjoy embellishing those smaller sized spaces just a bit. It was a good fit for me and it got me excited to do more.
I DO still love to make a traditional page. I throw a few in the family album for special memories. It's a mixture of 12x12 and 8.5x11. I also have separate albums I put out during the holidays. Those albums (8.5x11) are more embellished and I have fun with the pages, but I don't feel like they must be done. For example, the Halloween album. I have finished and unfinished pages with photos thrown into a sheet protector with notes about the year and the person.
Also wanted to add, I've always enjoyed your creations. If I remember right, you have/had a blog? You are very talented!

I took a long break myself when we moved and I was working full-time. I attended a Planner conference earlier this year (Go Wild 2017 in Nashville) with a neighbor and it gave me the spark I was missing. I'm a scrapbooker and a stamper, so I already had pretty paper and lots of perfect stamps. I also received a 3 month trial to Big Picture classes, which I just initiated this month. I find the Frugal crafter and Jennifer McGuire on YouTube very inspiring. I come to this board, Splitcoaststampers and Scrapbook.com a lot too. I try to engage in my crafty endeavors when I'm off work for a few days so I can get into my creative zone.

Some years ago I stopped for a few years. When I came back to it styles had changed a lot. I watched some how to videos for new trends and digitally window shopped to check out new products. I also went through my photos and planned a few layouts. Then I bought some new scrap goodies to give my mojo a shove and got started. For me the trick was to start slowly and plan my pages so I wouldn't be overwhelmed.

I appreciate all of the suggestions and encouragement. I have pictures that I am excited about. Now I just need to set aside some time to actually sit down and scrapbook. I cleaned off the table and put the mini album project in a box for later, so I now have a decent space to work.
refugeepea, yes, I do have a blog. Thank you for your sweet comments about my talents and pages that I have posted in the past. I appreciate it more than you know.
