I've been buying our cat food and dog treats there for years. They have great prices, autoship, etc. if I ever had a problem they have the best cs of any company I've done business with. I've read stories where they send people flowers if they lose a pet.
So now they've been acquired by Petsmart and some companies refuse to do business with them (naturally one of the companies we use). I did a quick search on one company's store locator and the first store that popped up is called Pet's Choice. In our area Petsmart only adopts out rescues, and several times a year they have an adoption event, all with rescue animals. I'm not sure if this is the case for all Petsmart stores. Pet's Choice, on the other hand, sells puppy mill and backyard breeder puppies. I don't understand why Petsmart is so morally wrong for these companies while a store like Pet's Choice is okay.

That's sucks. All "pet stores" here have been closed for several years. Our PetSmarts have adoption events every Saturday with local rescue groups and the Humane Society. The one closest to me has a cat adoption room open every day. Why would a business not want to support that? More profit from Pet Choice?

The dog food we bought from Chewy for years will no longer sell to them. My understanding is that our particular dog food supports small business, and now chewy.com no long qualifies. So I have to find somewhere else to get our food. No one here locally sells it, and chewy.com was great. I am SO sad they were bought out.

From what I understand Petsmart, while yes they work with shelters and what not for dogs and cats, they get all of their small animals from mills where they are treated horribly. Small animals, to me at least, deserve the same respect as cats and dogs. I tend to shop a small mom and pop store that is local to me. A little more expensive but I'd rather give them my money than a big chair like Petsmart and Petco.

I'll continue to shop at Chewy until I have a problem with them. Their customer service is top notch and as long as it continues to be and they carry our dog food (Taste of the Wild), I'll continue to be their customer.

I buy dog food (Primal freeze dried) from local pet stores only. I have no desire to support big box or online retailers when I can work with the folks at one of the many excellent independently owned pet stores in the area. There is no comparison, they will order whatever food or treats I request if it is not something they normally carry.

We did use PetFlow for many years. We were really satisfied with their prices and delivery.

I checked petflow but they don't have the cat food we use (earthborn holistic in the 3 oz cans-they only have 5 oz cans).

I've never bought from Chewy.com so I don't have my own opinion. But I'm hearing the same as Patter is hearing.

I like Chewy's, had no idea they'd been bought out. Cats have prescription food so it's easier than running to the vet to purchase. Dogs were eating a hard to find food that I couldn't get around here so was using the for that too. I love them cause i'm lazy

I like to shop locally too but our local store (about 30 min away) is tiny and doesn't carry much. The cat food is more than 50% higher there and as much as I like to shop local, I just can't afford to pay that much more. They don't carry the dog treats we prefer at all. We do buy dry food there because it's only a couple of dollars higher and it's offset by their buy 10 get 1 free program. But they're changing that so it may not benefit us anymore.

Our dog food (Acana) was purchased from Chewy.com too. I didn't think we were getting any more deliveries and I had a shipment show up this week. I need to contact them because I really didn't need it right now so need to know if they are truly done. Fortunately I did find a local store that sells it but the delivery was so convenient.

We have ordered from Chewy a number of times, and have been happy. It's all very well to say "support local businesses", but when you need an item that isn't carried locally, online retailers can be a literal lifesaver.

Same for me. we have a cat that only eats the chunk version of the Science Hills c/d (NOT PATE, LOL) and I can't find that locally. I love that they have the autoships! I've been buying my dog food there now too, so I don't have to lug a heavy bag to my car to my house. And kitty litter as well! seems they are always out of the specific one I need when I need it!

We are in a small town, and I always support our local small businesses; however, none of them carry the dog food my boys have to have (sensitive tummies). So, I have not choice but to go online. Ours do not order food for us like yours seem too.

Also, some folks don't have local retailers nearby, or the price is less online. I am lucky to have several retailers nearby, but many folks don't have that option.

I have two dogs and two cats. All of their food was purchased from Chewy.
Right now, I am searching for a source for Fromm (dogs' food & the pate and dry for the cats). Waiting to see what happens with Weruva, Tiki Cat and Old Mother Hubbard.
The only thing available locally is some varieties of Old Mother Hubbard.
