Yes! I graduated in '63 so I was right in the middle of it. Sadly unaware of the segregation in the south. I knew about it, but because I was only 17 and lived in middle class, all white Detroit suburb, it didn't cause concern. That now, causes deep shame.
Of course now I am aware of the horrible living conditions in the south during that time. Seeing it last night again was just so horrifying. To not be allowed to sit at a lunch counter?? Not be allowed to go to any college you choose? Hard to fathom. And Wallace, I hope he is rotting in hell!

Yes, I've been watching. It's very eye opening. I wasn't born until '70, so while I knew some things from history class, etc., I've learned a lot more. I highly recommend it.

Yes I made DH watch it with me last night. I love that I learn a little something new each time I watch a documentary about the 60s.

I'm watching. The civil rights episode was hard. The brutality and ignorance of grown, churched people sickens. And it wasn't just in the south. Even teenagers mouthing such hatred. Ugh.
And I'm always amazed how much happened in the 3 years of the Kennedy Administration.
The Vietnam episode made me mad. Our boys were so mistreated by a lying government and then their fellow citizens. They still don't get the respect (or help) they deserve.
I still have my POW bracelet. What a decade!

I'm not trying to start any debates, just commenting on what struck me...
I wonder if we are in the midst of a tumultuous time with the nation just like the 60's? Gay marriage, economy, antigovernment. It seems like we are in the midst of our own era of change.
