We are building a house. Ok our bedroom we want to put a barn door. We have dark floors and dark furniture. Of course we are going to put some sort of accent rug. Light blue walls. What color would you make the barn door?? TIA Edited to answer some questions: The moldings in the house are white. This door goes from my master bedroom into the master bathroom. The floors are going to be dark wook. My furniture is also dark. The floor plan is exactly the same as I posted before! But I can try to post an updated pic on where they are in the building process!

Something you can live with forever, unless it's easy to paint or restain.
With a statement door like that I'd also make sure it went with the area that was outside of the bedroom.

Coral always complements blue very well. I'd do a darker coral as a real accent.

I'd do white or cream.

I'm having trouble picturing it in any color other than a wood color.
I would probably want it to contrast with the floor so not a dark wood!

What color are the walls and floor outside the bedroom? You may be able to paint the door a different color on each side, if you need to.

What about a whitewashed cream? Something that would still show the wood grain?
Did you keep the floor plan the same as you showed us before or tweak it a little? It sounds like you're going to have a gorgeous home!

Why would you paint wood?
Stain it with a light stain, because it is easier to restrain a darker color than to go lighter.

I think in decorating the term is used as more of a style than it always having to be rustic. Like this modern type I like something like this Or something with a lighter wood tone This shows a contrast to the dark floors, but I don't like the way it is finished Here's another one

All the molding in my house in painted. I've seen some great contrasting barn doors in fun colors. It depends on the style of the house. Barn doors can be rustic or more fresh and modern. My friend has a cranberry barn door. It's fun and fits in with her more transitional style a lot better than a wood colored rustic door.

izzyscraps, is the barn door separating the bedroom from the bathroom or is it the hall door into the bedroom? If it is the main door, I'd go with a finish/color that won't look odd from the hallway. If it is separating the bedroom from the bathroom, I think there is more room to play with a fun color/finish.
