I know they changed their algorithm a while ago, but I still was seeing almost exclusively posts from that day, maybe not in time order, though.
I've noticed over the last week I'm seeing older and older posts, some I've already seen. I just opened the app and the first thing I saw after refreshing was from Aug 16th, and after scrolling through 25 posts one was from yesterday and the rest dated back to Aug 15th. Not a single post from today.
At least on FB I can choose Most Recent. Is that an option on Instagram I'm missing?

I complained about this a few weeks ago- it doesn't seem to have gotten worse, but it's still pretty bad. My feed doesn't include posts as old as mid- August, but I still get older posts mixed in with new ones. The ad situation has improved, but not by much.

It got worse for me recently. I've been noticing pics in my feed that are almost a week old that I haven't seen before!

Not noticing older posts, but the ads are certainly worse - sometimes every 6th post! I've given up reacting to the ads at all - just scroll past because reporting etc did absolutely no good.

Yes, it is really annoying. I don't want to see week old posts.
Why can't they just leave it alone?

I actually noticed this even worse on my FB feed this week. I will scroll for a few minutes and then all of the posts start showing up from 4-5 days ago! It is so annoying. Even if I choose "Most Recent", it reverts back after a little bit of time.

I don't use IG but FB has gotten super bad for this. I've noticed it seems to be a 6 day delay. I jokingly told a friend that Sunday I'll get to see the eclipse again.

I have noticed it. I love when it shows me posts that I've liked already and I know damn well that there are some I haven't seen because I have been on for a couple days. I hate that they ruined my happy place this way. Same thing with Pinterest too.

YES! I'll comment and then look again and think what a loser I am for commenting on a post from 2 or 3 days ago!

Both IG and FB are driving me freaking around the bend. I'm seeing so much crap on FB that I don't care about - who friended who, who liked what - Do. Not. Care. and now business likes are the default, rather than friend activity. IG feed is disorganized and out of order all the time, and the ads have proliferated overnight it seems.

I really miss the chronological feed instagram used to have. I notice they tend to first show me the accounts I interact with most (i.e. accounts of people I am FB friends with and accounts that aren't businesses) then the larger/business accounts whose pics I like/comment on more frequently. I'm on instagram frequently, and I've noticed if I haven't been on for a while, I get multiple posts (going back to the last time I was on) from the accounts I interact with most at the top of my feed.
I agree with someone above who mentioned how choosing Most Recent on Facebook gives you a few recent posts then suddenly you see posts from several days ago. Drives me crazy. I don't think I have the same definition of "recent" as Facebook. 😉

I'm glad I'm not the only one! At least FB gave us the Most Recent option, but there's nothing on Instagram for that.
I looked just now ~ first two posts are from within the last 10 hours, third post is from Aug 14th.

Facebook is just as bad. I just got a notification that XXX posted 3 photos to such and such group and when I looked, she posted them yesterday. I also got the notification yesterday when they were posted, btw. Even when I set my timeline to most recent, it's not set to most recent. When I go to group pages and choose recent activity, it's so random it's not even funny.

Makes me so mad cause I used Instagram to enjoy pretty photography, but they decide what I most want to see is family and friends crappy non artsy photography. I followed accounts of people I don't personally know to see pretty pics so I hate that a company is thinking I use Instagram for personal.
And I thought "social media" was supposed to be about seeing things in "real time" and live and up to date so why these algorithms about photos from weeks ago ! That defeats the point of knowing what's going on NOW, I actually feel like swearing when I type about this. I never get to see what I want to see. The only social media that is still useful for being aware of real time updates is Twitter.

I can't stand the non-chronological order! It is so frustrating and I miss so many posts!

This irritates me so much and this thread reminded me that maybe the squeaky wheels can get it fixed, so I sent them another explanation of how much their fabulous algorithm actually has no idea of what I want to see and that it would be great to return it to chronological feed. This current set up is actually driving people away.

I hate seeing pictures when they want me to see them. They really need to bring back the ability to view pictures in chronological order.

It's awful. Every 4th photo is an ad now.
In addition to seeing pictures posted 3 weeks ago, often they put photos I already liked/commented on days ago back at the top of my feed. Or they put a person's entire feed for the last 2 weeks at the top of my feed - even if they didn't post all at once.
I find myself using the IG app ess and less because of it. It is just useless. Instead I go to instagram.com and then click on an individual account and catch up with what they've posted. I only do that for people I really like in real life. (plus no ads! shhhhhhhhh......don't tell them that!)
