Do you have an interesting or silly morning ritual?
My husband and cat do! Every morning the cat jumps to the back of the couch and waits for husband to come out. Husband slaps the cat with his socks and then sits down. The cat jumps down from the couch and lays down in front of husband, butt toward husband. Husband slaps him with the socks again and then they start playing tug a war. Husband puts on socks and his boots. Cat bats the laces while husband is tying them up. When husband is done, Cat lays back down in front of him butt first. Husband kicks (a slight tap) him in the butt, saying "and a boot to the butt". The cat gets up and jumps back on the couch. They do this every single morning.
I live in a weird house.

The dog can be sleeping in the living room but as soon as she realizes dd is awake --- and she can tell even before dd's feet hit the floor -- she goes to her door to wait. When dd opens the door the dog walks around her to "collect" her (she's a herding breed) and makes sure she's walking in the right direction. Then she leads her to me and sits by me. After that dd is free to go to the bathroom or get coffee. lol The dog has been doing this forever. Doesn't do it with ds or dh, only dd and only if I'm here.

those are funny!
our morning rituals aren't nearly so cute. Our three dogs sleep in the hallway outside our bedroom-- our door is open when we go to bed. If one of us has to get up to go to the bathroom anytime after about 3 am, we shut the bedroom door-- otherwise the dogs will be standing next to the bed, staring at us, pacing, and doing some loud mouth-breathing. They're waiting for their breakfast-- but they start it about 15 minutes BEFORE my alarm goes off. It is freakin' annoying! That's why we started shutting the door. (I don't understand how they have such a good sense of time, actually. They also start pacing about 15 minutes before their dinnertime, too.)
Our youngest cat has a night-time ritual, though- when we start making like we're going to bed (turning off the television and lights, etc.) and go into the bedroom, the youngest cat RUNS and LEAPS onto the bed from across the room, so she can cuddle with my boyfriend (not me, just him- lol!) for a bit before we turn off the light.

I can't believe I'm going to admit this but I sing to my cat and dog each morning as we're all walking down the stairs when we get up. It's a song I made up when I first got my dog and it's just stuck with our routine. My DH thinks I'm weird but they enjoy it...or at least don't run from me so I'll take that as a good sign lol

When she is leaning back in a recliner she will hold the dog on her back in a curled up position up by her face and sing a song she made up. Then she gives the dog a few kisses and a couple of pats on butt and off she goes. If it has been awhile the dog will get up on her and let her know that it is time. Her husband also shakes his head and says he can't believe that the dog likes that...but the dog does.

As soon as I wake up and open the bedroom door the cats start meowing like crazy, singing the song of the people, because they know they get treats when I get downstairs. One lays on the floor by the bed the other insists on jumping up on the bed and attacking my hands as I'm trying to make it. We go downs stairs and the follow one step at a time meowing and into the kitchen. The big one just sits there and waits patiently. The smaller cat does a trick of standing on her hind legs, so I wait until she does that and then I give the treats. I open a soda, take my meds and that's about it for my routine.

That's so cute. I'm down in Florida and our cats are up in Alabama with the Hubs. One of them gets her snuggle time by sitting in his lap when he finishes a meal. As soon as she hears the chair scoot back she's right there, ready to jump into his lap.

Very cute. No morning rituals here. I'm just usually running around frantically trying to get ready for work.

These are cute stories! As soon as we begin to stir or the alarm goes off, the cats run into the bathroom and sit in front of the shower, waiting for one of us to come in and get the morning started. One kitty is waiting for a belly rub and the other is waiting to jump up in the bathroom window. On the rare morning we don't get into the shower before breakfast, they are confused.

not a regular ritual, but one of our cats likes to drink from the sink and while I'm in the bathroom drying my hair, she's sitting on the vanity waiting for me to turn on the water for her. (she typically sticks her head all the way under, gets a small drink, then shakes her head, spraying water all over the mirror.)

Does grunting and banging around with a face like a smacked bum till I've had coffee count? I do that every morning.

I rough up my sheltie with my socks before I put them on. She hears me open the drawer and I would start gently slapping her with the socks. Every once in a while, she would snag one and we would both be a little shocked. She also goes to the mailbox with me and will wait until I whacked her on the butt with the envelopes. Then she would trot happily back inside. My corgi thinks these rituals are awful. He'll do them to be part of the gang, but I can tell he is silently judging me. He's more of a love not smacks kind of dog.

I had to let a stream of water go down my hand next to his face. He was such a fun kitty.

ha! every once in a while, one of our cats *thinks* about walking in the shower (when it's off) and I briefly toy with the idea of turning it on quick. But I think I'd scar her for life, and she'd hate me forever!
One of our shelties always has to stick his snoot INTO my boyfriend's shoes right after he takes them off... He will sniff them and try to rub himself all over them, doing weird sideways contortions with his head, but not actually going so far as laying on TOP of them. (And I *swear* my BF's feet don't smell bad, or anything! lol!) Prescott is just a weird dog... he'll try to rub all over on the clean laundry, too- I think it's the fabric softener smell, with the clothes.

Our older cat took unwilling showers with husband at least twice a week, because she was an outside cat and her white parts would get dirty. He didn't like her white fur dirty. If fact a couple of months ago he took her in the shower because she was dingy from being a house cat.
My husband doesn't like the cats! Lol!

I wouldn't have any skin left on my arms if I tried that! does the cat actually STAY in the shower?
(eta: one of our cats is all white- except for a gray smudge on top of her head- and she IS looking a little dingy... but I still wouldn't try that!)

My cat would race a guest into the guest bathroom and not leave. You'd hear the guest shout out, "Your cat won't get out of the bathroom." I'd yell back, "Turn the shower on." So he'd get his clean on and the guest would just laugh. He did this every single time.

...I do have to give all six of them (3 dogs, 3 cats) a skritch or pat good morning, and I tell them all good bye before I leave the house... of course, the *good bye* ritual is partly to make sure I know where all of them ARE, too. Considering that one of the cats snuck out into the garage and spent some time there one morning, and that one recent morning two of our dogs figured out the door to the garage was slightly open (and so was the garage door) and I found them trotting down the sidewalk in our neighborhood as I backed out of the driveway! (the third dog is a homebody; she didn't go thru that open doorway for NUTHIN'!!)

I usually get up first and make coffee and feed the cats a can of soft food. I'll bring the coffee back to bed and invariably Lucy the cat has raced into the room and is curled up on my pillow, purring very loudly, ESPECIALLY if the sheets are freshly laundered. I always scold DH for not protecting my pillow. I try to remember to flip it up when I get up but half the time I forget.
My other cat always runs into the kitchen when she hears us getting ice water. She won't leave until you flick a little water at her.

My black cat does. The very second it starts getting a tiny bit light outside, she will jump up next to me and meow. If I ignore her, which is most of the time, she jumps across the top of me, and hard! She will keep crossing back and forth over my chest or mid section, pouncing up and landing down hard all in an effort to annoy me into getting up. If I can, I try to catch her as she jumps across the top of me and pull her in close for a snuggle. She hates when I do that, so she will jump down and leave me alone for a while. As soon as the cat jumps down, it is the dog's turn. He slowly and carefully climbs up onto my chest and sits down facing me. He will very very gently touch my face with his paw. Then he begins licking my chin and cheek. If I don't open my eyes, he licks harder and goes in for the full face. When I open my eyes, he flops himself down and starts rolling around on my chest and doing his funny talking noise. Once these two critters decide that I should be up, there is no way I can stay asleep. The cat wants breakfast, and the dog just wants to play.

They were rather grubby from being feral kittens, and for whatever reason, the rescue didn't clean them up. Their ears were fllthy! In fact, my vet wanted to know which rescue I got them from because the kittens had ear mites and were dirty and stinky. They should not have been adopted out until they were cured of the ear mites. What if I hadn't decided to get them all a checkup? The poor things would have suffered so much. I gave them all a good scrubbing in the shower with the sliding shower door closed so that they couldn't climb up and out. Only one of them meowed and the others seemed to relax down when the hand-held nozzle with gentle warm water touched them. I just used a baby shampoo without any scent and avoided their faces. I probably should have kept doing it so that they remained used to it but I didn't. I do occasionally mist their fur with warm water and wipe them down with a microfiber cloth.
