Any Peas have experience with working in Microsoft Access? I am trying to create a working database out of Microsoft Access to help manage our school. I am wanting to track monthly payments, registration fees and such. I want to be able to have a workable database in which when customers come to pay, we need only type in the student ID number or name to pull up the information. I am a whiz at Excel, but Access is a whole other animal. We are not big enough at this point to invest in custom software, but we have grown large enough that we really need to have something more efficient. Would love ANY input that you have!

I wish I could help you. The few times I have worked in Access, I cursed it mightily. You might check out YouTube for tutorials, or consider signing up for Lynda.com and taking some Access courses.

I've never mastered the use of database software. Have you considered using Quickbooks or Quickbooks online? It's fairly easy to set up and use.

I used to know how to use it pretty well - in a previous job we used Access for our accounting software - but I have to admit it's been so long since I used it that I've forgotten almost everything. What you want to do would definitely be possible, but there will certainly be a learning curve, and I echo the recommendation to take a course. Udemy has a lot of their courses reduced to £10 (probably $10 US as well) through tomorrow and they have several on Access: www.udemy.com/courses/search/?q=access&src=ukw (although I can't vouch for any of them - read the reviews!)

I love Access. A few basic tutorials or beginner level courses should get you where you need to be. I've done a couple of those courses (in-house training at my job), and the basic courses had us creating a database for a video store, with lists of movies, lists of clients, connecting them, creating transactions, etc. Unfortunately, the Access database I use for my job was created by an advanced Access programmer (has workflows, connects to our email program, and tons more). So I don't dig too deep, but it sounds like you have a pretty basic need.

You will definitely want to do some kind of training. Basically, you are going to set up several tables (each is like its own Excel spreadsheet). Each little thing you need to track is in its own table - payment types, people and their IDs, the payments you receive. You then create a form that allows you to access data from multiple tables, search, and edit.

Good Luck! IMHO, Access is neither user friendly, nor intuitive. I hated working with it. I hope you have a better experience.
