I'm wanting to put some coloring pencils and a couple of other things in my carry on - will this be an issue or should I just put it all in the suitcase. Anything to avoid all together?

Pencils shouldn't be a problem. Avoid scissors. There is supposedly a size under which they are OK to take, but I lost a pair at Christmas, despite them being shorter than the blade length shown on the sign stuck to the counter at security.

This video was just posted a couple of days ago. She has a blog post that goes along with it linked under the video. May be more than you are looking for, but I thought it had a lot of great information for travel. Packing for a Crafty RetreatHope this helps! Teresa

In my carry-on I usually have markers, pencils, a glue stick, tape, and watercolors (along with a water brush). I've never had any issues with TSA. I also have a small scissor. The scissor passes through US TSA easily, but it has been carefully inspected at foreign airports.
