While I respectfully understand politics are a hot topic here, the fact is Texas and likely Louisiana will need tremendous help in rebuilding after this devastating blow to our state(s). I've seen the devastation first hand and am waiting to get into my hospital to help relieve those who have been there for days with little provisions. It's truly horrible down here. As much as a non-fan of Senator Cruz I may be (even though he represents my state), I'm suspending all of my political leanings and hatred to focus on rebuilding MY state. I really hate the continuous gripping about political issues, and at a time like this in my state I'm putting it all aside.
Off my Texas soap box now.

Ted is up for re-election in 2018 and he absolutely NEEDS those votes from the TX coast. No one here is any percent shocked his moral stand against government assistance vaporized in the face of a difficult campaign ahead. He is morally bankrupt.

I am pretty sure that everyone here agrees that Texas and Louisiana will and should receive aid for recovery. However, the hypocrisy of voting against aid for another hard hit area and then demanding aid for your constituency is outrageous. The Senate, the House, and The President are supposed to stand for ALL Americans, not just their constituents. This isn't even a political issue, it is a moral issue.

I was just listening to a discussion on CNN and it was an interesting discussion. Cruz came into office at the beginning of the Tea Party movement and campaigned on downsizing the Federal Govt and Government assistance. Which was fine while Texas, as a whole, was in relatively good shape.
He will now spend the rest of his political life with the state of Texas begging for federal government assistance. Texas will not recover completely for years to come and Ted Cruz will have to spend his career doing what he campaigned against.
For the sake of the people of Texas, I hope that it makes a deep change in his philosophy about government assistance to help people and a deeper understanding of the phrase "there, but for the grace of G-d, go I."

I doubt he will change at all. I saw a press conference with him at the GRB this morning and he was already spinning his refusal to help others in the past.

He didn't get into office on a wish. Everything is politics, nothing happens in this country that is not influenced by it, so everyone is going to have to get their heads out of the sand and accept that.

Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild from Hurricane Harvey, but his Republican allies in the House are looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance the president’s border wall. The pending reduction to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster relief account is part of a spending bill that the House is scheduled to consider next week when Congress returns from its August recess. The $876 million cut, part of the 1,305-page measure’s homeland security section, pays for roughly half the cost of Trump’s down payment on a U.S.-Mexico border wall. Above per the Associated Press. If only people could just ignore politics in order to recover and rebuild. Edited to add this excerpt: The FEMA cut is the handiwork of House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J. — the major force behind a $50 billion-plus 2013 Superstorm Sandy recovery package — and Rep. John Carter, whose home state of Texas is suffering badly from Harvey. “Circumstances have changed significantly since the bill was drafted earlier this summer,” Appropriations Committee spokeswoman Jennifer Hing said Wednesday. “Given the current situation, the committee is reassessing the issue.” time.com/4922472/house-republicans-fema-funding-cut-border-wall/

$1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance the president’s border wall. Harvey hit the boarder, I'm okay with using the $1 billion boarder wall money to build on the boarder with the sea. Houses need walls.

Ted already showed us his lack of character after Trump insulted his wife during the campaign and then Ted showed up en famille to dine with him in the WH. Is anyone really surprised?

We and our very unliked Governor Christie want the victims of Harvey to receive the aid that they need ASAP.
Keep in mind that all but 3 of the 20 or 23 of the Texas Senators/Representatives who voted against the monies for us are still serving in Congress. Cruz was not alone!!
The areas here are rather compact. they didn't approve the majority of the monies until JANUARY 2013. Three months after Sandy! Many were homeless, living in rentals and still paying mortgages, or no jobs over the winter. And it gets cold here with snow et al.
