I've found that as I've gotten older, I've gotten more picky about what I buy. When I was younger and just starting out, generic/store brands were just fine but now...some I just can't tolerate.
Here is my list:
Cheerios Hellmans Dole fruit cups Post Raisen bran Byrne Dairy (located in Syracuse, NY) ice cream Gillette razors Barbasol shaving cream
Those are just off the top of my head.
Your turn!

I'll accept generic for most things, but not ketchup. Heinz only for me, please!

I'm rather brand loyal and also have several grocery stores that I'll go hungry before buying there.

Hahaha. I'm probably the exact opposite. The older I got the less brand loyal I became. Still fussy about quality, and I may try several off-brands or imitations before I find one I like just as well. Me too. Sort of off topic, but one of my favorite cheap options are the Dollar Tree brand of razors that have 6 blades. They come in a two pack. Work just as well as Venus razors.

My husband LOVES Cheerios, and most imposter brands won't do, but he does like the Trader Joe "Joe Os". Trader Joe raisin bran was a no go though.

When I was a starving student I bought generic everything except for Skippy peanut butter, diet coke and Yuban. I gave up soda and caffine a few years ago. My decaff is foo-foo stuff and to this day I will only buy Skippy when I make something that requires peanut butter.

I don't really ever buy anything generic. Well I take that back I'll buy Walgreens and Target brand medicines like Tylenol, NyQuil, Motrin, Affrin etc. That stuff isn't cheap!

I'm the same way - the older I get the more picky I am about certain things, mostly foods (I'm a super-taster and am really sensitive to changes/differences in flavors.) Here's my off-the-top-of-my-head list:
Helleman's/Best Foods mayo Heinz ketchup Soda (Diet Coke only for me - not even Diet Pepsi is good!) Wesson oil (the other brands seem to go rancid faster) Land-O-Lakes butter Haribo Gold gummy bears

Non-negotiables: Crest toothpaste (Herbal Mint) Hellmann's mayo Glad trashbags Dove deodorant Cheerios Jif peanut butter (reduced fat) Brawny paper towels (select-a-size) Venus Embrace razors Fage Greek yogurt Land O'Lakes butter spread Heinz cream of tomato soup Reynolds aluminum foil (non-stick)
Brands I prefer but will get something else if necessary: Finish dishwasher detergent (gel pods) Dawn dish soap Gain laundry detergent Angel Soft toilet paper Daisy sour cream Ziploc bags
When I find a brand I like, I stick with it. Saves money for me in the long run, and brain power, too.

I used to say Kleenex and q tips were the only things I wouldn't buy generic of. I now live the Kirkland facial tissue, I buy the small cubes for about the same price as the big boxes and they fit better in the house. I will say that I will no longer but generic cream of mushroom for that green bean casserole, it must be Campbell's, I made it more than once in the span of the month and it was a huge discrepancy. I don't care what brand of beans or fried onions though.

I didn't know they still made Pert Plus! I used to love that stuff, but I thought it had been discontinued years ago. they still do they have it at walmart and dollar general (the two places i end up in most often) it smells exactly the same as it always has it conditions 'just enough' - i don't need a heavy conditioner i've tried all sorts of shampoo/conditioner combos and this is the one that i kept going back to so i stuck with it!

Honey Maid graham crackers. I make a lot of pies and I've tried store brands, but these hold up better in the crust. Dave's bread, a recent find that I must have for breakfast toast. Dh is a Hellman's guy. ERA laundry detergent. I can only get it at Walmart now, but it works for all of us here as far as smell and cleaning ability. We freeze a lot of meat for the future and I must have real Ziploc freezer bags. They are heavier than any store brand I can get. cat2007 - we have relatives in Oswego and we visit at least once a year. We always go to Dinosaur Barbecue and Byrne. Yumminess twice a night!

I'm a brand name shopper and rarely buy 'house brands' or those I consider 'off brands'. The one exception is Great Value cocoa mix.

It has nothing to do with brand name or store brand for me. It's simply whether the product works/tastes good/serves its purpose/etc. I'm willing to try almost any product line at least once.
I do think store brands have improved over the years. They used to be almost universally disappointing. I find many I'm satisfied with now though.

I don't really care for cooking items, but I have a kid who is a bit like Sheldon (BBT) and can taste it when I use something different. No one else can. I remind him that he can cook dinner the next day (and grocery shop) if he'd like it a specific way.
I am picky about my shoes. My feet aren't the same size and getting a shoe that feels right is important.
