Since the Refugee Peas are well versed in so many areas, I thought I would ask for suggestions. We have a 17.8' fishing boat and are looking to upgrade to a used pontoon boat between 18-22 feet. Waiting until after Labor Day so we can get a better deal. What brands do we need to be looking for? I'm thinking I want to hold out for a Bennington, but if that doesn't happen what other brands do we need to consider? We do not want a fishing pontoon as DH did not fish at all with our boat. We just RIDE
Thanks Ladies

Can't help you have names. Our family has had two over the years, and they are so much fun! Some have nice covers for when you are not using it to keep it clean. Some have canvas shades that are mobile, some are fixed, some have no shade covers. How big a dock do you have?
NEVER operate the boat with someone in front of the boat. In recent years, there have been some horrible accidents, both dogs and people, being killed when they fall in the water and get trapped under the boat. Even with perfect reactions, the operator is not able to kill the motor/prop fast enough.

We're on our second Ercoa. The first one DH's parents bought used and we had that one for probably 15 years at least. We just traded it in last year on a 2002 with a newer motor and we really like it. Bennington is probably one of the most expensive you can get, they have a LOT of bells and whistles that you might not need. If you don't have an indoor place to store it in the off season any pontoon can get nasty quick. Our neighbors have a Kennedy with a top deck, they've had it for maybe 10 years and haven't had any problems with it. We store ours in a friend's barn over the winter to keep it out of the weather.

We have a 24ft Bennington, so I'm squarely on the "hold out" side. You will not regret it! They really are a luxury pontoon and ours still looks brand new after 5 years of use (we bought brand new in 2013). When we were upgrading from our previous boat, we looked at other brands, but nothing really compared to the craftsmanship of Bennington. We have the tri-toon with in-floor storage and 150 Mercury...plenty of speed for our kids to tube and ski behind, but also lots of room for passengers for cruising. Even looking for used, make a list of your must haves...the right boat will come along. Think about things like storage, speed, and seat configuration. Do you want/need a changing room on board, do you like the 'lounger' layout for the stern of the boat, etc. Will you trailer, or keep it at a lake home or in a marina. If the latter, go as big as you feel comfortable...you won't regret it. If trailering all the time, a smaller boat may be easier to handle. Let me know what other questions you have....I did all the research when buying our Bennington....I had my heart set and nothing was changing it.

Depending on where you are using the Pontoon, look into sea legs. Friends of ours have sea legs on their Pontoon, and they are great for when we are cruising around the lake and stopped to visit at other cabins. We don't have to dock anywhere, just put the sea legs up and we're good to go. It's also nice for when we go over to a sandbar where everyone likes to swim, just put the sea legs up and we don't have to worry about beaching it.

Thanks ladies! We will be storing on dry land - no lake house in our future. Plan to have it under some type of carport cover. We are very safety oriented around water and no one will be outside the fence when underway. DH has mentioned us sleeping overnight on it so I am looking at loungers in bow. So many options. I have found 2 Benningtons for us to look at.
It is frustrating how people do not reply to emails and texts concerning boats THEY have listed.

No idea, but I've always wanted one. Hope you find the boat of your dreams at a great price!
