Can you use a food dehydrator to dry out wet documents?

Try it. What's the worse that can happen. If you don't want to try it, wet a blank piece of paper and try it on that first. Good luck!

I wouldn't. Flood water is full of all kinds of pollutants. Do you want that in something you use for food?

I read that a freezer is better. Let them dry, put them in a ziploc and freeze for a few days to kill bacteria.

If you have a lot of material - more than what can be air dried in a 2-3 days, it's recommended that you freeze them still wet as mold will start to develop in that period of time. You can then remove from the freezer and dry in batches. www.archives.gov/preservation/conservation/flood-damage.html

Thanks y'all! It's not my papers btw. It's BFF's - birth certificates, adoption papers, deed to house, Army discharge, marriage license, vehicle title etc. Was in a lockbox. Things were put up but nobody expected 2-3 feet or more of water. They do have scanned copies of some of it from filing for va benefits last year.

If necessary freeze some for your friends, smaller batches. That is if she doesn't have power or room.

Paper can also be ironed. Use an opened paper grocery bag on top to prevent accidentally scorching the document.
