Dallas is in a panic over possible gas shortages!! Starting yesterday afternoon I started seeing posts on my Facebook feed about gas stations in my north Dallas suburb running out of gas. My son and his girlfriend went to get gas about 10:30 last night and said the Kroger near us had a line a 1/4 of a mile long! People are freaking out and the media isn't helping matters. My boss went out for lunch and went to 6 stations and still couldn't get gas! Empty gas pumps, hour long waits, hundreds of cars in lines that stretch for up to a mile long and some stations charging anywhere from $5 - $8 per gallon!

I've heard government officials say that every instance of price gouging will come with a $25,00 0 fine. I hope it's true! Despicable.

It's no joke. We are just north of Dallas in Frisco and we are out right now (not getting gas) and you can barely get around in the roads because the gas lines extend into them in all directions. Fortunately for us, DH is off work all week since I had surgery and both cars are full of gas and I won't be driving. So we are good but are definitely making sure both cars are garaged tonight so someone doesn't try to siphon gas.

I can understand buying 10 cases of water, and driving throught dangerous conditions and carrying it all to a place of need and adding an upcharge. That's a ton of time and work, and you deserve to be paid.
But to increase gas prices 2-3 times just because there's a shortage and people are desperate is sick.

I have not seen or heard of any price gouging in our town. Just shortages. There are just a few stations with gas and the lines are probably 100 plus cars in each direction that you can possibly enter. I tried to take a photo but there was no way to convey it. Even the entrance to the tollway was blocked with people lined up for the gas station at that corner.

We live no where near Texas, but we have always been affected by Gulf area supply problems like this, and I am shocked that our gas prices haven't started to creep up yet. I pretty much expected that to be immediate.

Goughing like that should be illegal It is illegal (in Texas at least) and people are being told to report the stations.

There no need for panic! Everything will level off in a few days. The prices have already gone up here and it go up more because there will be less supply.
Gouging is in fact illegal, the penalties are large. Any one seeing the gouging prices should report them, pictures will help.

We are having the same issues in FTWorth. Long lines, stations out of gas, BUT I have not seen any gas over $2.49 for regular unleaded. Price gouging should be reported.

Our prices have up $0.30-$0.50 today. I paid $3.09 for premium today when I paid $2.59 just a week ago. They are saying they will continue to go up here. I hope not! Edited to say that I saw regular was $2.55! That's higher than the national average, and we are usually lower.

There should be enough people working in oil and gas in Dallas to spread the word that this is not a panic; it's a temporary situation and it happens every time we have a hurricane in the gulf. For heaven's sake. The people of Houston aren't freaked out like this and we just got flooded. Calm down, Dallas!

Our prices in SC jumped from $2 to $2.25 on Wednesday and it's 2.49 today. I know that's still cheap and I'm really not complaining. And our few inches of rain today doesn't even compare to Texas at all. So much to be thankful for.

The Temple/Belton area where I am has been experiencing shortages for a couple of days. HEB and Walmart were both out but I saw they both had gas again this morning. It comes and goes. No price gouging that I have seen, but the higher priced stations are more likely to have gas. We do have a Buc-ee's and they say they will not run out and they will not raise the prices.
Crazy days...

I pretty much expected that to be immediate. Ours have in GA. I paid $2.15 at Sam's Club on Saturday. I saw it at QuikTrip for $2.56 yesterday. So even if you take into account a .10 discount, it's still jumped .36 cents in 5 days (same neighborhood).

We briefly had stations out of gas for a week or so after Hurricane Matthew and it was getting dicey towards the end, I can only imagine the magnitude after the enormity of Harvey.

Just watched the news. We do NOT have a shortage of gas. Yes, due to the hurricane, there is less supply, but we have plenty. Stations are getting their supplies, as usual. The panic is what is causing them to run out.

The highest price I ran across was $3.89 for premium at a Texaco station. Their prices are always crazy high. I filled up yesterday, but noticed quite a few stations that were out of gas today. I went to WM and Sam's this morning. The stores were both packed and people had carts loaded like they expect a six month famine. Save

I was just there to make a return but dang, there were cases of crap being pushed out of there today and I know that a semi going to Houston with supplies that had been at Costco's parking lot left yesterday so that wasn't it.

There is huge panic here in San Antonio and incredibly long lines at the gas stations. It delayed one school districts' buses by at least 30 minutes in some cases. It's crazy. I need to go get gas, hoping I can go tomorrow AM on the way to work. We'll see.

I live in Allen as well and filled up last night at Race Trac. The Costco off of 75 has had crazy long lines all day. Every gas station I pass is either a ghost town (totally out) or with lines spilling on to the street. I know this is a short term situation, but it is very hard to resist topping off.

We had gas lines for 2-3 weeks after Sandy. Maybe stay due to the power outages. As the power came back it was spotty and randomso one block the gas station would have power and the next 3 didn't so the one was crowded
Hope you all can recover a bit sooner.

Crazy here in Austin. I was just trying to get to the doctors office, and had to drive by a few gas stations. The lines were out into the roads, blocking traffic. I only have a quarter tank, but no way am I fighting those crowds. I'll go in the morning and risk paying a higher price.

Everyone has in Dallas just needs to calm the F down. This is a social-media created problem, not a hurricane problem.
And how about carpooling instead of hoarding? I'll be carpooling with my paralegal until this insanity passes.

A friend told me the gas stations that are out of gas are either taking their prices completely down, or putting up $9.99, if they are out. So, if you see prices up near $10, they could be out, not gouging. ETA: Dude, just re-read this. Sorry for all of the typos! I was on my phone, and posting quickly. All fixed, now.
