The heatwave is supposed to settle down today. We shall see. If it is much cooler then I am thinking about chicken nuggets and french fries w/a salad or veggie. It's too hot to bbq even on Labor Day. What's on your menu? sueg, how is your knee doing w/the stairs? Good luck at the doctor today. Hoping your appointment goes well. Have a wonderful day.

Our weather is better today - back to 'end of summer' rather than 'full on autumn'. It is looking up for the rest of the week, which is nice, but what we really want is for it to be fabulous from Sept 16 for two weeks.
Dinner tonight is just me again - DH has a work dinner. There is left over spaghetti sauce from yesterday, so I'll boil up some pasta.
I saw the doctor at the orthopedic clinic today. I had a faint glimpse of hope when he said 'there are two possibilities', but it seems they are partial or full knee replacement! I have a date for the surgery - Oct 13 - and will go in the day before, when they will do some x-rays and make a final decision. I still need a couple of more appointments before them, with the anesthesiologist and the rehab co-ordinator, but there is a plan.
When I left for the appointment, our elevator was working, but it was stopped again when I got home. It seemed to be OK again this afternoon, so maybe they were just doing some work earlier. At least there appears to be progress!

I'm totally not motivated to cook today Dh stated this morning that we have to "eat healthy" beginning today ... I do eat healthy ... the rest of my family are the ones who don't eat the veggies I have a lot of sweet peppers from Costco so I think I'll make chicken fajitas The dd's won't eat them so they can fend for themselves

I woke up feeling lousy but put on my big girl panties and decided I couldn't be sick today...so far my tactics are working. Dinner is going to be BLTs (with avocado for me) with chips and corn chowder for anyone who wants it.

I kept some of the sausages aside yesterday and today i am making sausage and bean soup. It was going to be for lunch but i ate breakfast so late that it's become dinner. Don't care if the H doesn't like it he can cook his own then. So dinner is sausage soup with onion, garlic spinach and instead of the usual cannellini I used Silvia's seasoned black eyed peas for a little kick.

DS is going to be leaving soon to beat the Labor Day traffic going back to the Bay Area. I'll miss his being here with us. Not sure what DH and I will have for dinner ~ a trip to Raley's is in my future. Here are the pictures of the old cabinet he refinished. Wish I had taken a before picture. The one with DS will have to do. If you can't tell from the picture, he added beadboard to the back wall. That cabinet looks awesome

I don't know. Something easy. Maybe quiche/frittata if it doesn't get too hot, but I'm so traumatized by the past few days' heat that I can't really believe it. Otherwise maybe just a turkey sandwich and chips. NOT leaving the house if I can help it.

No more body parts from Satan in the tribe, thank goodness! Dd is here for her day off. She brought steak, potatoes, and broccoli. We still have some of lucyg 's grandmother's crust pie. The trailer is fixed. Thank goodness for that, too! sueg - dh's brother had both knees done (separately) after suffering for years. It was the best thing ever and he admits it now. He did say that the physical therapy was torture, but he was determined to do it so he could continue to live an active, outdoor life. Thanks for the thread.

cadoodlebug I love the look of the "new" cabinet. sueg, I'm glad you have some news, even if it wasn't exactly what you wanted, about your knee lucyg & scrapmaven and all other west coast dinner friends, I hope cooler temps prevail ASAP. It's Labor Day and I'm home for the day away from my labors, but DH had to work. I'm a bit of a heel to say this, but I'm glad I've had a day at home ALONE. Ahhh! I puttered around, watched some Netflix, worked on my Chrismtas cards, and did the mowing. All at my own pace. Tonight will be a do over of a meal that was a hit last week: salmon, couscous, green beans.

Update, I just realized there's still part of a Costco chicken in the fridge. So I'll do something simple with that. Because I know everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for precision in what my dinner will actually be.

cadoodlebug your cabinet looks awesome! What a great job! We are having stir fry beef tonight. It's 75 degrees today and breezy. Perfect weather IMO. I am waiting impatiently for my DH to come home from camping. I'm pretty mad at him. He promised me he'd leave around 8 am which would have put him home around noon. But he texted me around 11:00 and said he was just leaving.

I don't feel like moving let alone cooking. Last night we went out with my nephew & SO, dd's & boyfriends & sil. I drank like I was still in college. Boy did I pay for it all night. DH isn't all that sympathetic either.
There's really no leftovers in the fridge. So I don't know.
Sue- I hope it's a quick uneventful recovery.
Cadoodlebug that turned out great.
Jeremysgirl hopefully he makes it up to you.

We are having hamburgers. It was decided that that is what we will be having. Good. I don't have to think about anything then. I hope he bought a sweet onion. I want some fried onion with mine. If not I guess I am going to the store. That also means I have to dress suitably. I don't really want to but if I have to I will.
There will be spinach salad, Roma tomatoes with feta, balsamic and olive oil, and plenty of cheese on the burger. I like burgers with my cheese.

Well there is no sweet onion and he doesn't want any so I won't make it for myself. I looked at him sideways because he loves onions. He wants MUSHROOMS instead. The one food I can do without.

I'll start calling your ds Picky #3 I can't win, can I? Son only likes homemade food. He hates all prepared food. That means anything that is prepared he doesn't like. He does like cheese. Is cheese prepared? It is kind of as it has to be made. He reads the ingredients on everything he eats. If it has anything offensive to him in it he won't eat it. I just know what he will and won't eat. He does seem to like salad dressing so that's one thing he will eat. My dad is a little better and will eat almost anything as long as there is no rice, potato, wheat or sugar in it. He does eat ice cream. See if you can figure that one out. I can't.

You won't believe where i am home from...one guess. The store because? He wanted onions after all. I was happy to go because I wanted some banana bread and the store I shop at makes good banana bread (and it's on sale this week). I also got an avocado for tomorrow because I was thinking ahead. I wonder if I am going shopping for anything else tonight. DS is still in Vancouver doing car things with his 2000 close friends. (Ok exaggeration but he is a friend magnet-needs to write a self-help book how to make friends because he has the market cornered!) Tomorrow our cousin from Winnipeg is coming for a visit. We are all looking forward to seeing him. He looks like my Dad. My son will also look like the cousin because my son looks exactly like my Dad does, too. I look like my mother so I will be the odd one out.

cadoodlebug, that is a great transformation! teddyw, I hope you're starting to feel a little better. It's been a while since I forgot I'm not in college anymore and your post made me laugh. I made a panzanella salad earlier so it could marinate for a couple of hours. The plan was to grill chicken but DH is craving a steak so will bring something home. I'll probably still grill the chicken to use later in the week. Our heat has definitely broken. It is still warm, but a very reasonable 80ish so the windows are open.

It's stifling in the house right now. Yuck.
Dinner was really good. I didn't think I would pull this one off. He had so many specifications for his salad and everything. It turned out really well! I got this feta cheese at the Mediterranean deli near me and I sampled it ahead of time. Two thumbs up! There are no leftovers in the fridge at this point. There is some baby spinach, though so I might cook that tomorrow. The meat was better than usual. I don't know where he bought it but it was *better*. I did a Walla Walla onion and there was part of one in the fridge. I cooked all of it and he ate a lot of it! One of us will be sorry later! I don't think I have cooked an onion that well before. The mushrooms were you know. Gross. But I dealt. I am really full now!

Because I know everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for precision in what my dinner will actually be. Truth! We're having southern fried-style chicken from Aldi. DSO discovered it the other week and it is really nice. You cook it in the oven rather than frying and it is really moist and delicious. We'll probably have it with potato gems (tater tots).

Jimmy John's. We were too tired to cook, and it was too hot for warm food. There's both a Subway and Jimmy John's by the house, but I was craving the bread they use at Jimmy John's. I had a Vito, and it was yummy.
