Thank you all. These are great suggestions! I'm excited to do this album...haven't gone on the trip yet tho.lol I think I'm just a little overwhelmed as I've not done 12x12 previously. And did I mention 12x12 is huge? Cause it looks ginormous. ☺ I'm going to watch some YouTube videos and look at some sketches. I'm also intrigued by using the white space. I'll take a notebook with pockets. I'll journal every day and try to keep everything organized. Not sure if there will be any LSS but I'll check online. If there are, I'll be checking them out for sure.Again thank you all. I'm feeling much better about trying such a big album after all your advice. Peas are awesome. 😀❤ While there may not be any LSS specialty stores at your destination(s), don't forget to check places like stationary stores, independent booksellers, etc. Sometimes you can find awesome papers or other ephemera to use for embellishments in unexpected places. I went wandering down a side street last time I was in Rome and happened upon a beautiful stationary store that had all these incredible handmade papers - it was very exciting (in a geeky, scrapbooking sort of way). Oh PS for the pea who asked...it's a trip to Southeast Asia. Vietnam and Cambodia will be the main parts of the trip. My BIL is going for business so it will be me,DH,my sister and her DH. ^^^ to second what scrappinwithoutpeas said, make sure to check for other kinds of supplies that aren't necessarily 'scrapbooking' supplies. Where you're traveling, I would think you should be able to find some REALLY interesting handmade and/or hand-decorated papers, interesting ribbons, food packaging (candy wrappers, canned food labels, etc. for example), postage stamps, etc. that would really give a sense of 'place' to your album pages when you make them. Are cute stationery supplies as hot and trendy in Southeast Asia as they are in Japan? You can also buy postcards, fill them out, and mail them to yourself-- write a bit about what you're doing, and when you get back, you can use them in your album, too. (I've always wanted to do this, but never have, yet.) I took some kind of 'odd' photos when we were in Hawaii, too- a couple stores took yen as well as dollars, so I took a picture of that... I also took photos of the gas prices at the gas station, the food prices in a small grocery store ($6 for a gallon of milk!), that kind of thing. You could also find a 'thing' or two to keep an eye out for wherever you go, and take photos of it-- doorways, windows, plants, birds, whatever. You can make some 'compilation' pages for each of those subjects in your album.

Any suggestions for such a large album? WRMK faux leather 3 ring albums are beautiful. I think for a big trip, you will have no problem filling up an album. With 12x12, you don't have to decide what details to leave out to make enough of your trip fit. You can add everything. It's liberating.

you will fill it up and then some! I have been known to do 5 4x6 photos on a page, with one 4x6 space left for journaling.

The first album I ever did (of an Alaskan cruise for a friend) I did 8 x 8. After that I did some 12 x 12 pages and I've never gone back to the smaller size. I loved how much more I could get on the larger size page.
Before I even start an album I figure out how many pages I am going to do on each subject.
One thing I've found with my travel albums - I tend to take hundreds of pictures of the same thing. I don't need to put 100 pictures of Old Faithful or buffalo in my album. I will go through the pictures and pick out 4-8 of the ones I like the best, print them, and then decide which ones to put on my page.
I like using different sizes of pictures on my pages. A lot of times I will use 3.5 x 5 pics instead of 4 x 6 since I can get more on the page that way. But I've also used odd sizes like 6 x 9 and even 6 x 24 as a panoramic photo across two pages.
Most of the scrapping I do is travel related. I've finished up 2 albums of road trips I've taken in the U.S. I like to tie those albums together somehow. On one I made tabs with the date and place and put it behind a picture on each page. The second I tied it together by putting the date and place in a corner on each page. I also use the same font for all of the titles and a different font for the journaling throughout the album. I've also used borders to tie pages together. I'm currently working on two trips. One will be tied together with a small die cut of Michigan. The second will be tied together with an embellishment cluster of a tag with the name of the Hawaiian island, metallic blue rick rack (to look like waves), and a Hawaiian stamp. I will also add some different elements to each cluster - all with a Hawaiian theme.
I put a lot of the pamphlets, post cards, and other memorabilia in pocket pages.
Something I did years ago was to make templates out of cardstock of various photo sizes (2 x 4, 3.5 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, etc.). When I'm planning out a LO and trying to decide what would look good I frequently pull out those templates before I even print pictures. When I have something I like I make a quick sketch of the idea so I don't forget it.
