How do you make yours so they get a little crunchy on the outside? In oven? On stove top? (Not frozen ones...from scratch)

I always brown mine like my Mom did. Then I finish up in the oven

I do them in the oven. I put a cooling rack inside a sheet pan and bake/roast the meatballs up on the rack so the extra fat drains into the sheet pan. This gives the meatballs a nice crust and I don't have to futz with browning them in a pan a few at a go.

Brown in a cast iron skillet using butter, then finish in the oven.

I like mine really crispy on the outside so I put a little vegetable oil in the skillet and fry them ... turning them each until they are browned all over.
By this time, they are completely cooked. We snack on a few and the rest go immediately into the sauce!

how is it possible that a one word thread title has me craving a good Italian meatball in sauce/gravy with a great bread side...

I have put the meatballs into a mini cupcake pan and then rotate them throughout baking. They turned out really well, but the pan is a pain to clean.
