I use the jewelry ones as well. Sometimes I leave a few of the smaller dies together. Less chance of loosing one.

midorica, you might also want to buy yourself some safety glasses. I got mine at Walmart for about $4 in the tool section. I saw a Simon Says DT member (forgot her name) mention that, and I thought that was a good idea. I know when I snip the the little bits off, I never know where that piece goes. Definitely don't want it flying into my eye. like these: safety glasses

The one you linked is for jewelry wire. While it might get the job done, I tried using mine and was unable to snip my dies apart. However, since I do make jewelry, I did not want to ruin my good snippers trying to cut dies apart, so I erred on the side of caution.
I ended up using a heavy duty tool that is similar, but made for stronger metal. It came from Home Depot, not Michaels.

Thank you all for the great advice! I picked up a set of mini clippers at Michael's, will give it a go and see how it works. Will definitely remember to use safety glasses. In case the ones I got don't work, streetscrapper, if it's not too much trouble, could you tell me which dollar store and what section you looked in? Are the cutters called something special?

I found wire snippers in the jewelry section at the craft store for about $5. Everything we had in the house was too big... they work great but they are sharp so hidden from my kids!

I'm a bit late to the party here, but you want to find one that says it works with memory wire - those will be strong enough to cut thru the dies without ruining the cutter. I know I got mine at Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago, but I'm not finding it on their website now.

Midorica, you're probably in the US so I doubt this will help ... I'm in Canada - Dollarama is where I picked up my wire cutters years ago. I think they still have them and I'm pretty sure they were in the hardware section of the store.

I bought a cheap pair of jewelry wire cutters in a set at Tuesday Morning. They don't work well at all for cutting, and they're too fat to fit well in between some of the die pieces. I wish I had bought some from an online scrap place instead, to get a pair that's slimmer and more heavy duty.

I went to home Depot (in canada) or Lowe's and bought a mini snip set. Husky brand. It has 6 different types of small (same size as the jewelry snips) for $10. Comes in a case and everything. Or if you have a princess auto around you can get them too.

I also bought the magnetic tray Jen mcguire uses at home depot or princes auto. It's called a mechanics tray. I cut my dies over it so shards don't got flying.

I bet a magnetic platform for a diecutting machine would work the exact same way, and it's probably something a lot of us already own (or should, if using thin metal dies! I LOVE mine). I'll have to remember that the next time I have some dies to cut apart.
