If you've been scrapping for a while, you know what I'm talking about... if you're new, this is one of those 'back in my day, we used to...' type things, lol!
Deluxe Designs put out color blocking page templates, and laser-cut embellishments (in the days before the Cricut) but they also manufactured a system called Pages by Design, with clear plastic templates for every part of your SB page and an idea book of sketches, basically.
With the Pages by Design system, all you had to do was use the plastic templates to trace and cut your patterned paper, cardstock, photos, embellishments, etc., arrange them like the sketch, and voila! A scrapbook page was born. There were templates for different photo sizes, 12 inch strips, background papers, squares, circles, and all sorts of embellishments (flowers, diamonds, tags, mini file folders, etc.).
So, to my question:
Does anyone here actually HAVE this system, and if so, would you be willing to give me some information about it? I found the idea book last weekend at the SB store going-out-of-business sale, and I'd like to know what sizes the different templates are. I know I can just 'fudge' the pages based on the sketches and make them close, but I'd like to at least know the actual dimensions.
Thanks! either reply here, or PM me, if you do have it or have seen it.

Never mind... I found them! The internet is a wonderful thing, isn't it?!? Apparently, someone a while ago made MTC files for the different template sizes, and she was thorough enough to include a file with the dimensions. I'm going to make some SB pages this weekend, I think, and see how they actually work! (I might not like it; if so, I'm glad I don't have a whole lot of money invested in it, lol.) So... What other 'retro' SB tools or supplies do you still have hanging around, and want to use? (please tell me I'm not alone in using something that's 12 years old, lol!!!)

I pulled out my CM circle cutter a few weeks ago. I'm glad when I quit scrapping in 2001 I didn't purge my tools. I even have my corrugated paper crimper.

I had it back in the day. Purged it. Wish I had it back! I made a whole album with it and I really liked the way it turned oit.

Looked it up. It looks a bit like the Close to my Heart Sketch books. I loved those when they first came out. I could make a lot of pages quickly.

I had those templates. You stored them in a HUGE plastic binder with geometric shapes on the cover and it was heavy as heck once you got all the components in it. I really liked the clean and simple pages I could whip out. I can't remember if I purged that binder before one of my moves or if it's in the storage area packed away in a box. And every once in awhile I'll open an box and find supplies that are easily 12 years old! The last discovery was a bunch of cute embellishments from Junkitz. The package of acrylic ones I used were marked 2003.

I still have my Pages by Design book and templates - I got the whole kit for a steal when they went out of business. I don't use it as often as I could/should but I do still use it.
I have the MTC files but haven't figured out how to make them work with SCAL

Those plastic templates were an awesome help when I first started doing 12 x 12 pages. You could take one template and rotate it 90 degrees and get a completely different look. And if you did this four times, then flipped it over and did it again, you got 8 different LO designs from one template.
Once I gained confidence, I put them aside, and actually gave mine away about 5 years ago.
I use my CM circle cutting system all the time. I also have their square punches and circle punches. And a "rippin' ruler" for getting that torn edge but along a straight line. Used THAT a couple of weeks ago. I have also hung on to a couple of paper crimpers. Think I might give one of those a workout one of these days...

I still have mine! I don't even want to think about what I paid for the set. I just *had* to have it, but I'm pretty sure I've never used it, sigh.

I still have mine. I actually use some of the templates for sizing photos to fit sketches - not just the PBD ones. As they are clear, it is easy to see what looks best when cropping a photo to a specific size. I don't use the other bits - borders and embellishments - as much as I am more likely to use ready made or cut them with my Cameo.

I haven't used it for a while, now that I have circle dies. Sometimes you just need a big circle. I also still have lots of the CM plastic cutting guides ovals and shapes. My studio is a scrapbooking museum. I've never heard of Pages by Design. Must have been in my down years. Looks like an interesting concept.

lol- my scrapbook space could be considered a museum, too! I still have my very FIRST CM scissors, corner rounder, circle / oval cutting system, and circle and square punches from way back in the day- they have to be at LEAST 15 years old. And I still use them all! (well, not very often, but occasionally.)
I just bought an EK success circle-cutter for LARGE circles at the SB store-closing sale. I do have a Silhouette, but sometimes it's just too much work!
And now, I think I need to get out my long-neglected paper crimper and give it a spin, lol!

I had one of the 12x12 page templates that I used a few timss. The system sounds similar to Kiwi Lane. Is it?

I wish I had not purged my 12x12 Color Blocking templates.
I still have 2 paper crimpers, wavy and straight.
I remember tracing and hand cutting letters for titles using stencils. I still have those stencils.

I think it is similar to Kiwi Lane, actually... the Pages by Design system had a HECK of a lot of pieces. I drew up and cut most of them out of colored paper and card stock last night, so now I can *set up* some of the pages according to their sketches and see what they'll look like.

I had a couple of the color block templates but I don't remember Pages By Design. I would have been just starting out then and it would have been handy. I pretty much used that old Becky Higgins sketch book, Creative Companion. Anyone remember that one?
I have a CM circle cutter but it doesn't look like the posted picture. Mine is a bunch of templates and corresponding plastic circles with grooves in them. The blade is in a small handle that goes in the groove and you drag it around the circle. I think mine be a newer version, I'm not sure. Either way it's not going anywhere. When CM stopped making them I bought a bunch of extre blades.

That circle cutter is from 1997 or 1998.
I gave up my original CM corner rounder about 10 years ago. It was still going strong. Someone my husband worked with needed one. My cheap Marvy corner rounder is my go too now and works as well as the CM.

When CM stopped making them I bought a bunch of extre blades. FYI, Creative Memories is still in business! (someone bought all the machinery / dies for the tools, etc.) They re-designed the blades a BIT- the 'case' that holds the blades is hexagonal instead of round. Not sure whether the new blades still fit into the tracks from the original templates, but I would think so. I still love CM templates and tools- I've started a new obsession with their border punches!
