A friend and I are going to the Kansas City area tomorrow to visit another friend who is taking us here: www.kansastravel.org/lawrence/grinterssunflowerfarm.htmWhat better way to end the summer?? I'm so excited! The weather is supposed to be beautiful...sunny, low 80's. The only negative is my son went back to college in Colorado and accidentally took my camera battery charger with him, so I have to rely on my phone for photos.

Have fun! We drove from Colorado to KC, MO last month and there weren't any sunflowers in Kansas. We saw more in CO!

The friend we are visiting went there last weekend, and she said they will be in bloom for another week or so. I have never seen anything like that, so I hope I am not disappointed.

Have a fabulous time! Sunflowers are so cheerful!
EXCEPT the one experience I had about 4 years ago. We were driving north of San Francisco to a mountain town, a 4-5 hour drive. Somewhere along the way we came upon the most eerie sight I have ever seen with my two eyes - at least a mile long field of sunflowers, upright in a field, but they were solid black from top to bottom. couldn't have been a fire - they were upright. Spray painted for some horror flick? I don't know, I never Googled it to see what it could possibly have been.

I've been seeing a few people on FB post pictures from here. Pretty neat. If you haven't been around sunflowers like that, be sure to wear long sleeves and they can cause itchiness.

Perfectly understandable to be giddy. You are going to see something beautiful AND you are doing it with a friend. Have a great day!

Have a great time! it's been on the cool (but comfortable) side here lately, perfect weather for doing this. They've also set up a country store with homemade goods and T-shirts that look really cool. I follow them on facebook and the people who own the land come across as just lovely "midwestern nice" folks. Enjoy the flowers and fingers crossed that there isn't too much traffic.

I just looked at their Facebook post, Grinter Farms, August 28th, Rules of Engagement. It's cute. If she's not already among us then we should invite her to be a RefuPea!

It was CREEPY!!! They normally do rot pretty quick so you must have caught them at just the right time! Yes, it IS creepy!

We have a local one here on the far west side of the Cleveland Ohio area. It's truly a beautiful sight and such a happy peaceful place. They are expected to 'bloom' sometime the middle of this month. I cant wait to make the drive again Sunflower Field
