i've been searching for tshirts to refashion into baby rompers
i really wanted a johnny cash shirt - in a small
i did a literal old school fist pump in the goodwill when i found it!
i found 4 or 5 other suitable shirts -
now i have to attempt a romper!
i also found the perfect twin sized sheet that i turned into fitted crib sheet

I visited our local charity thrift store and purchased a globe that is made of metal and the continents are made of flat metal sheeting (bronze in color). It serves no purpose other than to be cool looking. I also found a wire plant basket that I turned upside down and made into a chandelier using a string of solar powered teardrop shape lights. We hung it in the tree that shades our front patio. It was a hit at the recent birthday party.

The globe just "spoke" to me. I actually didn't buy it the evening I first saw it but kept thinking about it so ran back the next morning. Thankfully it was still there.
I'll post pictures of both.

While checking a bottom shelf (always check the bottom shelf )I discovered a cool vintage cocktail shaker that I thought might be Hazel Atlas. It features a bellhop running with a tray of cocktails while holding onto the leash of what I think is a long-haired dachshund. It's in beautiful condition, not a scratch on it, but the lid is wedged on tight and cockeyed. Any ideas on how to get it off? At any rate, I tried to find information about it online and the most that I could determine is that it's from the 1930's and that people are trying to sell it for a heck of a lot of money. Apparently, there is a set of matching glasses, but I did not see any. Attachments:

Soapy water? Let sit for awhile.
Use cold water , metal expands when heated.

The top with get smaller while the bottom gets bigger. It might come off that way.

Never worn black leather Sanita shoes on EBay. $9.99 shipped. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them. Don't know why they were so cheap.

At the auction last weekend I picked up a maul ax for $5. My son is loving it and is actually splitting the wood from our cut down tree that has been sitting there a couple weeks. I can't imagine swinging that thing it weighs so much. I love that it is all metal so I don't have to worry about the handle splitting like on a regular ax.
Picked up a cute set of 14 glasses for $2 that had circles on them, super cute. I'm really tired of my DD Shrek glasses.
There was a big box of vinyls which I really wanted, all kinds of 70/80s music that I listened to. The person I was bidding against is one of those that if they want it forget about having it! I gave up probably quicker than I should have but I wasn't spending a lot when other times I"ve picked up a box for $3. If only this couple wasn't there. They hadn't been for a month. UGH!

Finally got a great couple of deals at my usual auction house this past weekend. For something like $17.50 I picked up like 19 games. 16 for PS3 which is what my son has, 2 for WII and 1 XBox 360. I figure the ones we can't use or don't like I can sell for like $4 each. Two the lots I don't think anyone even bid on them. Was surprised. When I sent the picture to my son he was like "Christmas??". Of course he knows he'll get most of them way before then so why wouldn't he want me to bid on them.
The other deal was two different lots for $1 each. Consisted of a good lot of pots and pans which included a Calephon sp? cupcake pan which I'll keep, a cuisinart waffle stick maker. Decent stuff along with a Deal or No Deal electronic game which has been fun to play.
I love when they have bizarre food like Jalapeno poppers (like cheese puffs) and get an entire case of 12 ($1.09 size bags) for like $2. They are so good. Wish I got both cases. Some bizarre banana coffee drinks which as I type this have forgotten about out in the garage refrigerator. Another great $2 buy for a case. They sometimes have stuff that has just expired but should be fine which if people were smart they would wait until it is $1 an item or better yet 2/$1. They seem to forget that the reason you go is to get great deals. This group definitely does not like hot/spicey stuff. I score amazing then!

We went out a couple of weeks ago, but the stores were super crowded - maybe back to school shoppers? And it seems like the resellers have multiplied as well. At least we assume they are resellers since they fill up a mountainous cart and then sit down and look things up on a smart phone before dumping most of the items in a pile and buying the rest. I'd never noticed before how many people do that. I feel bad for the employees/volunteers who have to come by and re-shelve all that stuff. At the last place we went, they rolled out a cart full of housewares and mixed in was what looked like someone's entire collection of mixed media supplies. There were three big bags of supplies, each marked $6. I passed on one because it was brushes, brayers, scrapers, Mod Podge, and other stuff I already have. The other two I grabbed in a heartbeat! One was full of Daler Rowney FW fluid acrylics, Windsor Newton inks in these cute little boxes, India inks, and a set of Staedtler Lumocolor pens. The other bag had 22 tubes of heavy body acrylic paints! This was the good stuff - artist quality paint and most were the large tubes which I don't buy because they're too expensive for playing around in my mixed media journals. The only things that seemed to have been used were the red and black heavy body paint and the red marker, which was missing from the markers. Weird... It was a huge score for me. I've had good luck finding stamps and stencils and punches, but the paint and ink is usually old and dried up. This stash will keep me pretty entertained when the weather gets bad up here this winter.

I'm just happy that school has started up and they won't be dragging their unruly kids along with them. Being a teacher for so long has made me pretty darn patient around children, but the level of unsafe behavior with these unsupervised children is ASTOUNDING! Not just the countless kids who tear apart the toy area, but older ones using bikes, scooters, and skateboards to race around the store bumping into people and knocking things over. And then there was my "favorite" (notice the sarcasm font) - the three boys playing guerrilla warfare by hiding in the racks or around corners and jumping out and pretending to shoot customers with guns presumably from the toy area. Normally I just chalk it up to bored kids being kids, but I have intervened with a few of the safety issues or when the employees are trying to get the kids to stop and the kids ignore them. My SO laughs at me and says, "there she goes again with the Teacher Voice...".

I ran over the Salvation Army thrift store on Friday to grab some stuff for my costume for our local "Fan Faire" event at the library (like a mini Comic Con)and ...OMG! It was closed until further notice! Darn hurricane Irma. They had roof and water damage. The Goodwill had some suitable items, thankfully. So I Wowed the crowds...lol, ok more like totally embarrassed my children, in my Carol from The Walking Dead costume complete with fake cookies that I made and painted. And my youngest son with his long hair rocked a plaid thrift store shirt over a T and a Dollar Tree hat to be Carl for a couple of photos. I also grabbed a Tuxton Republican elephant serving platter for a couple dollars. DH and I are political junkies and I can see us eating cheese and crackers or something off of this as we watch returns come in next election.

I bought an industrial lighted magnifying glass on a wheeled stand. It's perfect and very easily positioned. I love these old pieces of equipment that are so superior to what you can find in today's stores. I paid $20 for this one through Craigslist and I'm really happy with it..

I found a "free, please take this" yesterday. It is for a little girl, Disney branded and is like a small vanity, complete with a mirror. My ddil is very happy when I find something at a thrift store for the kids. This will be the birthday present.

This weekend I went to buy donuts because I was near a place my friend had recommended. Turns out next door was an amazing thrift shop. I only browsed the Halloween stuff outside because my family was waiting for me but I got a Hawaiian dress for $6! It made me remember the good old days of thrifting when stuff for Halloween was cheap and actually old stuff from people not just cheap leg avenue costumes. I wish it was closer by so I could shop the inside, that place was like a boutique!

I scored some vintage Rae Dunn at auction. Paid more than I generally do, but hoping I can use to trade for some other Rae that my BFF wants.

Yardsale this past Saturday I bought 7 shirts that were from Chico's, 4 of which still had the price tags on them, for .50 each!! The ones without tags looked like they were brand new.
A ceramic Halloween bowl for .50
a 1949 Hall China Percolator with the matching sugar and creamer for $15.00. I plugged it in and it works!! We have had perked coffee several times this weekend!

There's a thrift shop by my gym that I've never been to before, most stuff was pretty pricey but I found a women's shortie wet suit for $10. It looks like maybe it was used once if at all. I figure it will come in handy when the kids want to go in the water at the beach.

I had been wanting a crossbody purse that was neither frumpy nor sporty. I had looked all my usual places and hadn't found anything. We go up north a few times a year and always make a point to stop at this thrift store that benefits battered women and children. I walked in and right there at the register was this purse for $5. And it's real leather. Teal is "my" color so it suits me well. It's in perfect condition-not sure it was ever used. The key fob was still in the pocket. And construction wise, it's the most well-made purse I've ever owned. What a difference nice zippers and straps make over the cheapy stuff I usually buy. link
