If you add all the items up, they are $43. The kit is $44.99. I also added up the components as soon as I saw the annoucement. Pretty shady imo. What a surprise...

I’m glad they broke the kits up. There were several embellishments I wanted but didn’t want to pay for the whole kit. They raised the prices on a few items since I ordered a few hours ago. The 12x12 transparency was $1.99 and is now $2.99. Also, the thickers alpha was $3.99 and is now showing up at $4.99

You’d think they’d whip out the calculator beforehand and make sure the prices came out to more than the kit. You know all the pricing is just arbitrary anyways.

Breaking up kits is always a sign that something isn't selling well.... Especially for Ali who never does that except for her twice yearly “sales”.

But it only comes up that price if you count the bag right? Didn’t April give us some song and dance that the bags were not increasing the kit cost over at SC when people started saying the kits were thinning and we wanted cheap packaging not thinner kits?

I would buy 3-4 of those zipper pouches if they didn't have that ugly font on them. Words don't bug me, but I did like the cork circles, large numbers, and the hearts. $15 for 3 items with shipping and tax. That's a lot better than $50 with a bunch of stuff I didn't want.

There are zippered bags like those on AliExpress. If you have enough patience to search well, you can find some quite on the cheap. Most of them come with colourful zippers (red, green, yellow and blue, I think) rather than the original black ones SC had.

But if you look under 'stationary zipper bag' more come up. 'Document zipper bag' will find more.

Just listened to the Exactly Enough Time podcast episode featuring Jess Forster and Ali Edwards about the family resilience in relation the Family Resilience Handbook class AE is launching. Here are some quick notes that might help someone make up their mind re: buying the class or listening to the episode: - Stacy Julian got on my nerves as a host. Too extra for my taste. But no vocal fry, huzzah! - It is Jess's class, not Ali's, actually. She's the one offering the class through Ali's website and brand. She's used her daily job as a medical social worker (working with families with a child diagnosed with type 1 diabetes) to create it. - So many uh-uhms from Jess when she agrees with something the other person says. Help. - The Secrets of Happy Families by Bruce Feiler is one of the main sources of inspiration for the class. - The four lessons will walk you through family history, personal motto and really dive into what family resilience and how you have overcome adversity as a family to thrive (different values and structures within a family). - Three different narratives can be told as a family: ascending ("we came to this country with nothing, we built a store and grew from there"), descending ("we used to have it and lost everything": hanging in the negative space), oscillating ("let me tell you what, we've had ups and downs but we've stuck together as a family and that's the most important thing"). Jess's class wants to focus on the third. - First, the class will ask you to define who's in your family first: parents, spouses, immediate family, pets, children, people sharing a kinship although not related by blood, etc. It seems like Jess has tried to be inclusive for families of all shapes and sizes. One of the activities is creating a layout about all the people you consider to be part of your family. - The second chapter takes you through a timeline activity. You'll want to talk to people you consider part of your family for this to find the dates your family was established. You'll write down events, life situations and themes that have come out of your family experience. You will write about them as positive, negative or question mark (mixed feelings, not clearly defined, complex). - The resiliency lessons are about learning to grow from the negative experiences or the ones that induce mixed feelings, starting with a smaller anecdote and then graduating to the bigger stuff. The adversity your family has faced is the basis for the growth mindset Jess tried to work into the class through creative writing and prompts. - The third class focuses on creating a family motto. The idea here is that you need to define a family mission statement. Jess and her husband live by: "Together, we have adventures big and small." She talks about her daughter being diagnosed with mild autism when she was 8 weeks pregnant with her second child and how that challenge has become something big for her family. The album is supposed to be updated with extra documents as life marches on and new stories of growth of the family are told. - The handbook is to be an opportunity to engage the other members of your family. They should be able to pick it off the shelf, read through it and talk about it, add to it. - Family interviews are important to the creation of the family handbook. Jess mentioned getting her parents to talk as much as possible to add to the family history told in this handbook. There is an emphasis on sharing lived experiences to learn from. - The class will show how to build a 6x8 album. There is a digital kit designed by Jess with help from Ali. The Family Story Kit will also be used (and Ali will open the possibility to purchase it separately). Colour schemes match. The album has a title page, intention(s) page and four sections to go with each lesson. But you can use anything you like in the end (TN, 9x12, etc.). - The classroom will remain open indefinitely. You can wait to sign up. Hope this helps make up someone's mind. I'm firmly on the nope side. This doesn't work with my very, very small family. And I've done enough journaling and therapy to have worked through these things already. I have no need whatsoever for a "common" book or healthy family habits. But I'm sure others might enjoy it.

I kind of half listened, after the first half I determined I am not interested in the class at all and after that I really didn't listen much to the other half of the podcast. Ali is promoting the FAMILY Story Kit for this class so I am a bit concerned about it selling out. This Story Kit theme FAMILY is one of the very few I am interested in and want to purchase as a single kit for the $25 month-to-month pricing.... Do you think it will be tough to get?

This feels very... intentional. 😉 I’m imagining the look on my husband’s face when I say we need a family motto. This hobby is for me. I have no desire to rope my husband into it nor would he enjoy it.

Happy with the new items she has such as the extra large plastic circles, the felt embedded hearts, new shape die-cut puffy hearts. Wasn't 100% on the colors but they are growing on me now. Didn't like a lot of the card sentiments/sayings so may sell off a few of those but happy to have this kit.

Love the puffy stickers Add on in the "Family" story kit this month. If anyone ordered and would like to split the second sheet I'd love it!

I just told the boyfriend about this project and the family motto quest when I got home. He shook his head, shrugged, pulled his hair up in a man bun and sighed. Not a word but says it all.

Well if they wanted to save me from screwing up my family then the class is about 20 years too late.
It’s just me now, unless I have company. And Ive done & finished the ‘making everyone else happy crap’ so My motto is “this is me too bad if you don’t like it”
Or maybe I just need a symbol instead of one little word, like the ancestral native NJ wave. It runs in my family.
I’m crabby today can you tell?

So no one is jumping on those 12 wood veneer potty people for $3.99??? When $3.99 5 years ago got you 70 of those folks !
Little did I know that those bookmarks I made for my sons class (clear bookmarks with sequins and a potty person) would be worth at least 30 cents! Damn...
