I remember back many years ago when Ali sold her DD kits through Studio Calico. The first one I ever bought was $50 and included everything you needed...album, inserts, page protectors, patterned paper, chipboard, numbers, veneer. I remember cringing then at the price. This year I easily spent triple that with her. I bought the same one. I think it was 2010. It’s changed so drastically. How are we supposed to grow this hobby on these prices?

Honestly, I dont know that that is anyone's objective in the Ali/Inked Camp. Its becoming very clear who Ali is looking out for and thats herself.

I agree the prices are getting bonkers. I don’t understand the main kit....how many things do you need to show which month it is (transparency divider, monthly card, & wood word)? I only bought it because I plan to use some of that in my PL this year. I also got a stamp set.
I passed on the mini kit. It’s too much imo. I’m planning to use some of my unopened story kits to add color to my album (change, journey, learn, etc). I’m keeping my subs until May because I like the themes and then I’m done. I like Ali and her products but we need to break up for awhile lol.

Those kits are sparse and if you want any color you end up having to add stuff in. I thought the “Myself” stamp is a cute idea but it is super easy to write that out myself.
I’ve always just done the basic class for OWL mainly because I felt it was so hard to predict where your word might take you and was better for me at least to not plan out that far.

Looks like the cost of the class itself has gone up too.
2019 - $26 early bird then $31
2020- $29 early bird then $35

I can't believe how cold I feel about even looking at anything new from AE. I looked at the OLW albums and the main kit for 5 seconds and closed the window. Just no interest at those prices.

I guess what I keep thinking about it is how little of her kit I used last year. Literally the only thing I used was the transparencies and a handful of generic embellishments. Everything else was from my stash or just not needed.

If you spend $25 on that mini kit (which that is not worth) It locks you into 3 more $25 mini kits you get zero preview of beforehand. With no mention of being able to cancel and that doesn't come with the class. No way that will be worth it.

If our Aussie $$ wasn't in the toilet right now, and if I wasn't already in a tight financial situation, I would be stocking up on those 6x8 star albums to take advantage of the $15 flat rate shipping. At some point I think its going to be wise for me to stock up on and hoard 6x8 albums that I can use for future DD projects. But the timing just sucks right now.

On the topic of OLW, I stopped working on mine in March which is fairly typical. But my word is still very relevant and needed in my life. So I'm thinking about just reusing all of the content from 2018 to continue on with my word in 2019.

I just wish we knew more about how much is true profit for Ali & Inked and how much is direct cost. I'm sure Inked takes a fairly big cut. I love Ali's products and find that my style is very in line with her style and her product - especially the Story kit & stamp. Both of which I think are worth the price considering I'm using everything either for my story album or other pages. However, these extras for other projects REALLY add up. I ended up buying last year's OLW kit and some of the embellishments, etc. when they were on sale. I'll likely buy the class, one of the stamp sets and MAYBE the mini kit (haven't decided yet). But, just those 3 things are $75 after shipping. And I think 39.99 for the main kit is too much. I wouldn't pay that. But, all in all, it's something I struggle with - this is Ali's JOB and she needs to be paid, no doubt. Yet, sometimes it feels like the prices are getting out of control. But, many people appear to be buying so maybe the increases are working for her?

What is the point of the mini kit, especially given how thin and basic it is? I guess it would make sense if it was connected to the monthly prompts or something, and the quarterly schedule would then be a good motivator to keep going with the project as you get new products occasionally — I know that finishing out the year is an issue for a lot of us who participate.

I think Ali said the mini kit would tie into the monthly prompts for that quarter.

The responses I read from Ali indicated the mini kit was a way to bring color into your album, keep engagement going throughout the year, and spread out the cost especially during this “big buying season”.
My opinion is that it’s a way to lock in and guarantee sales while reducing inventory. Seems to me like they’ve been trying to unload old inventory recently with all these sales including the “first ever past project sale” that had a lot of OLW items.

The sad thing is, they've sold projects on sale many times in the past. They just billed it differently this time to try to get new sales, even though the discount was less than previous sales.

I am not a fan of any of it. I didn't buy anything other than the class last year either and it worked out just fine. I fully expected to like the mini kit and was prepared to buy but it is terrible and stupid expensive. It might be just me, but I don't need any more plastic pouches.
The other problem I have, is my word hasn't come to me yet. Maybe I'd feel more inspired if it had but kinda doubt it.

I only liked a stamp the Less one, but decided against it as I adored the design but only like 2-3 phrases. So, I will use the style for words I relate to more. However, the upcoming themes are looking promising in relation to things I have planned for next year—minus “Kindness,” I don’t really know about that one. Being kind to ourselves (grace) or teaching kindness to little ones is what I am thinking.

I only bought the B/W Star Album and it came with 27 page protectors so that secured the sale for me. And I agree everything is so overpriced. I am not very happy with the way Ali's prices are heading. I hope she realizes she needs to make things more affordable for her customers. I will use the Paislee Press Journal for OLW this year so I don't want thick embellishments -- so it was an easy pass for me.

Add-ons for Celebrate and Jan SBTM Two million dollar rubber pieces again My guess is $9.99 for the rubber pieces, $5.99 for the plastic stars, and $5.99 for the cork hearts. Anyone else care to guess?

I'm skipping this month. This theme does not resonate with me at all. I always like the January SBTM kit but not sure if I want to spend $17 to pick it up.

I assumed she marked things like that so she could say they were on sale, and then with the 20% on top it of, it was like it really was on sale (if that makes sense). I am so over all the sales with AE. Every.Single.Month its something.

If they want to get rid of things, they really need to be offering more attractive discounts. I feel that whoever is in charge of this is doing a really poor job.

Am I imagining things or is there an OLW 2020 thread that exists but I can't find...?
I didn't do OLW for 2019, and I was fine with it because I'm terrible at keeping up with that project. But I'm seriously thinking about doing it for 2020, but maybe in a journal format.
