I'm moving from a house with central vacuuming to a condo and I need a new vacuum. I don't know what's good out there except it seems the vacuums with bags do a better job than the bagless kind. I'd like a vacuum with onboard tools, but i'm not having much luck. Please tell me what your vacuum is and why you love it.... or hate it!

Shark. That's all I can say. Best vacuum I've ever owned & it puts up with my 100 lb shedding German. I've had mine 5 years & just recently replaced all the filters. I usually wash them every 3 months or so, but I felt like it was time to just replace & it's like a whole new vacuum. I paid $219 years ago on a QVC today special value. Not sure what they cost anymore.

I prefer my Rainbow, but it's several hundred dollars and may not be what you're looking for.

I've had a Shark but it didn't last very long. I've had two Dysons and I still don't see how that vacuum generates the love fest that it does. Kirby's are great but heavy and expensive. Oreck's are OK but not worth the price tag. I LOVE my Miele and won't ever buy another brand of vacuum cleaner ever again. ETA: We have carpet upstairs and combination hardwood/tile downstairs. The Miele is what we use on the carpet. We have a Neato for downstairs to handle the shedding of two pugs and an English bulldog. I think our house helper loves the Neato more than we do.

I third the Shark. Mine came with a bunch of tools. I paid $156 for the NV501 in 2014 from Kohls. No issues since and we have dogs.

I have a Shark, bought it about 5 years ago for around $150 at Walmart.
Works great!
Also a couple months ago I got a Roomba. Really like this too, use it about 5 days per week.
Still use the Shark on my area rugs as the Roomba does not get all the fur on it from my forever-shedding Lab.

Still use the Shark on my area rugs as the Roomba does not get all the fur on it from my forever-shedding Lab. Pretty much word for word, except that my Roomba is getting all the fur off my rugs. I liked my shark vacuum cleaner (from Wal-Mart) but I have to say that I'm truly in love with the Roomba now and never use my Shark anymore. Roomba has my floors done before I get home from work and I sigh a huge sigh of relief each afternoon. I just clean out the dust bin (which is always shockingly full) and whisper my thanks as I put it back in the Roomba. I keep the Shark around in case we have a big spill from one of the kids or something, but truthfully it's thankfully stayed in the back of the closet.

Happy with the Dyson, second one in 16 years, so nothing else to compare with. Will have to check out the shark ones when the time comes. I will also echo the love for Roomba for day to day stuff, love Roomba!

Had to replace my old vacuum cleaner this summer. Bought a Miele.
I love it! It is light. The exhaust, or whatever you would call it, comes out of the top of the machine. No flying critter hair when I turn it on now. It cleans well. My favorite thing is the beater bar head will attach directly to the handle making vacuuming the stairs easy. I always had the boy do the stairs because they were a pain with every other vacuum cleaner I had.
It has a 10 year warranty.
In my opinion, the Miele was worth every last penny.

Another Shark fan, mine is almost 2 years old and does a great job on carpet and hard floors. Would definitely recommend one.

Another miele fan. Mine is 19 years old and when the old girl gives up the ghost, I'll replace her with another. I have a mix of tile wood and carpet and she handles it all.

I know you already bought one, but I'll also say that I love my Shark. We had a really good (or so I thought) vacuum before it - Oreck. I was amazed when I vacuumed with the Shark how much yuck it pulled out of the carpet - eew! And, we don't wear shoes in the house. I will definately get another when the time comes!

Add me to the list of Miele fans. Mine is 20 years old and going strong. Definitely worth the higher price tag. We were spending $150-250 every few years on crappy vacuums that turned out to have various problems that made them short-lived (motors that didn't last, parts that broke and couldn't be fixed/replaced, weak motors that gave up, bad designs, etc.)
My red Miele works great on steps, carpet, area rugs, and is lightweight. It has onboard tools, it's very easy to change the bag, and like another pea mentioned - it does not spew dust/dirt everywhere, which is a huge consideration when several members of the household have a bad allergy to dust.

SunnySmile- I hope you will be happy with your Shark Lift Away. I absolutely despise mine... It works great until you try to use the wand and then it ALWAYS tips over. And the cord placement also drives me nuts. And it's too clunky. I wish I had spent the few hundred dollars more and bought another Dyson.

My Miele is 2 years old. Love it. I got it because of its reputation with pet hair. Also, I purchased it at the vacuum cleaner repair shop. He thinks highly of the Miele.
Only thing I don't like is the attachment to use on the stairs does not have storage on the machine. I rigged up a little bag to hang on the machine so I don't have to look for where I put the device.
FWIW--the repair man said he won't sell a Dyson --but he does repair them and said that brand keeps him in business.
I had taken in my Kenmore for the 2nd time in 1 year--a little plastic gear broke much too often, so I kicked it to the curb and moved to a Meile.

My first used Rainbow lasted 16 years. My parents got one when I was a kid because of my allergies. I bought one refurbished for $300 or so 17 years ago and it's still going strong.

But he doesn't stand a chance with my dog hair, so once a week the Shark is used.

I have a roomba and it seems great for now I guess since we just bought it. What I love about it is it does great with pet hair as we have a chow. What I don't like about it is its price. lol, We have Roomba 980 and I think it's too costly.

I kill hoovers with regularity - in fact I just replaced one this week, sigh, after it stopped turning on after several weeks of shutting off intermittently. So we go cheap knowing it'll only last a couple of years. I got the newest one at Aldi's for $40 - so far I've been happy with it - we have 6 cats and live in the country with sandy soil that gets tracked in - I hoover daily and empty the bin after every room.
