Are you fasting from food only or water also? Are you eating/drinking anything at all or nothing? I would think you would at least need water. Water is a-okay.

Way to go! I normally only do 16:8 or 18:6, but I have done a few 24 hour ones in the last couple weeks to shake things up. It has been really beneficial to me weight loss wise. I've never been a great morning food kind of gal - I'm happy with just my coffee and some cream/stevia. And I stick to a Keto way of eating when I have my meals. I don't snack in my eating window - I have a great lunch around 12:00 or 1:00 (depending on what I'm doing at the time) and then dinner around 5:30/6:00. And then no snacking after dinner. I find I don't need to either. Lots more water, and the urge for diet coke is now long gone! The only artificial sweetener I use is from some sugar free flavour syrups I add to my coffee in the morning - one pump and that's it. Good for you freebird - may your journey keep going in a positive direction!

Well, I have a possible 72 hour fast coming up (in hospital) to check my blood sugar issues and I'm dreading it so much. I wish I could do this with no issues. My willpower probably wouldn't let me though.
I'm wondering though, surely feeling floaty isn't a good thing! I get that feeling before I faint when my blood sugar is too low!

I like intermittent fasting. I definitely believe in the health benefits of fasting. But hair loss is a thing. I watched a friend from high school do what I believe was a religious fast. Now, she fasted A LOT longer. I think she was going for 30 days. After her fast was over she lost all of her pure black hair and it grew in completely grey! She is around 45 years old. I will never be able to do a long fast after seeing that. Too vain I guess! omg..yeah, no way do I want to risk that! I fast 24 hours twice a week (dinner to dinner) and I do 16/8 other days. When I eat, I eat well, healthy whole foods and make sure I get in all my macros. I monitor myself. I still have some weight to lose before I get to my goal weight but I can see myself living like this for the rest of my life.

I decided to do a 36 hour fast. Then, I did the math and knew that I'd probably hit 41 before I could eat. I'm now at 43 and trying to decide if I should just go for it and try to hit 72. I don't feel super hungry, I'm a little bit hungry but my stomach only growled a little last night. I'm getting a bit of a headache. I keep reading that the first 48 is the worst and then it's easy. I'm kind of at a "let's see what happens" stage. Anyone done a 72 hour? Was it ok at 48? If I do 48 I can have dinner tonight. If I do 72 I won't eat until tomorrow night. UPDATE: I've decided to just go for it. At work is the hardest because I have a long stretch of being potentially undistracted from hunger. I'm at 50 hours now. I took some advil which was probably not the thing to do but the headache was getting to me. Had a shoot so totally forgot I was hungry and now I'm doing fine. Only slightly hungry. I feel different. I feel "floaty". I can't describe it otherwise. freebird Did you add any himalayan salt to your water? I've seen on a FB group that that can help keep the headaches away.

wow to your update! 50 hours is great! My girlfriend does 72 hours at least once a month and she feels incredible! I have my first colonoscopy scheduled next month and although I'm still dreading it, the fasting part of it I'm okay with, it's drinking that nasty stuff in the time I'm supposed to drink and just the idea of the actual test is FREAKING ME OUT at least I don't have to worry about the fasting part. stacmac I totally understand your anxiety! If I can suggest something to you, why don't you try easing into some light fasting by doing some 16/8 to work up to it, rather than having to suffer cold turkey?

I just can't unfortunately. I would actually like to try a little intermittent fasting. Actually, maybe not even total fasting, but calorie restriction for a couple of days a week.
At the moment however, I'm having problems with my blood sugar levels.they keep dropping too low and I have to sort it out.

I didn't have any himalayan salt. I've just had some regular salt. I'm winging it. lol I'm at 64 hours now. No longer hungry.

I follow Fast 5, and have maintained my weight for over a year now, but I like the idea of a longer fast once a month to shake things up. I’ve never gone past 24 hours.

I must have had over 40 colonoscopies in the last 34 yrs- I'm a bit of a baby but honestly,it's fine. I prefer a colonoscopy to a mammogram tbh 😬

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at 23 which spread to the whole of my colon . Due to raised risk of cancer I then started having regular scopes . I lost my colon to cancer 8 yrs ago but have a J-pouch- I now have that scoped instead, lol.

Is this fasting something that is discussed in the obesity thread? I purchased that book, but haven't read it yet. I think I would enjoy fasting. So many times, eating becomes a nuisance thing for me when I am super busy with something else. Having to stop and prepare and eat food just becomes annoying instead relaxing and nourishing. And then there are dishes to contend with. Just drinking water, which I do in abundance every day anyway, would be an awesome break.
I would start one today except my favorite poke place emailed me with a 50% off invitation for today and tomorrow because I left a good YELP review for them. I really like that place, and half off? I'm there! I will look into fasting and consider it for next week. Thank you!

Salt intake is key with a prolonged fast!
Remember that if you are feeling weak and shaky and fluid and salt aren't doing the trick, it is time to stop. There are no gold medals or financial gains from this. Listen to your body.
I did one 24 hour fast and one 20 hour. With the 20 hour, I was ravenous by hour 19, but was too busy at work to eat at all. I don't know how much of that was mental because I had planned to eat at 16-18 hours originally.
