I have been suffering with foot pain for well over a year now. Been to a few doctors and tried some treatments and still am suffering. So today I saw a new doctor and he wants me in nothing but supportive shoes. I have a pair of Brooks I got fitted for but they are navy and metallic purple! I can get away with it, kind of, at school (I'm a teacher). But I don't really want to wear them every day! Any helpful suggestions? I really don't want to get rid of ALL my shoes, but it is looking like I may have to.....

I don't know what sort of foot problems you have but I shop at orthofeet a lot: www.orthofeet.com/collections/women-shoes

I've had foot issues for 5+ years--a giant bunion on my big toe and plantar fasciitis that comes and goes.
My shoes need giant arch support.
I wore a pair of Dockers for a day a few years ago and it kicked up my PF for a couple of months because they are so flat/no support.
They are ALL ugly (I would love someone to correct me on this and find some normal looking shoes)
Luckily I'm in the south and almost never need closed-toe shoes.
The cheapest ones are some crocs (not the original style) but the sandals with support.
Also I have some Tevas. They are actually cool looking and they adjust with velcro so they are custom for your foot. But they are Key-Westy/casual, not sure if you could wear them to school.
But the "nicer" ones are at the "Walking Store" type shoe stores. Expect to pay $100+ for these.

I need good quality supportive shoes. I love Cobb Hill shoes and have several different styles, including ankle boots. They fit me really well (11N) and are supportive. Cobb Hill is made by New Balance, I believe. Dansko and Born also work well for me. I find them on sale at Marshalls or online.

The WAlking Store! That's the name I was trying to recall. They do a computer analysis of your foot and can help you find a shoe that will work for you. Their shoes may be pricy, but find out when they're having their annual sale. I twice stumbled into the store on the day of a sale and left with multiple pairs of high end shoes for $40 each. Not bad for shoes originally priced at 3-4 times that. You might get lucky and find something in your size.

I've had a lot of foot and ankle issues in the past as well. I found that Sanita's ( like Dansko) works really well with my feet. I also find that Berkenstock's work well in the summer. Good Luck! I've spent a fortune on shoes that ended up not working.

I wear Vionics. They have great arch support, which is what I need. I also wear Dansko clogs, which are great for my feet. But sometimes my ankle rolls and I fall off them. 😳

I have commercial orthotics and they give my feet just enough support to be bearable all day long. I love them. They were $50/pr and I got 4 pairs of them a number of years ago. Still going strong. That helped for me anyway.

The most supportive and comfortable shoes, the ones I wear when I know I'm going to be walking the most at school are Vionic. I especially like the Vionic suede sneakers that are exclusive to QVC for now. I bought a charcoal pair when they first had them available for a great price and then I bought a black pair even though they were no longer such a good deal. They come in five colors and I really like them.

I have several pair of Vionics, which aren't cheap, but I bought most of them on QVC with evil, er, easy pay. They have pretty good arch support, and they do have some cute styles, depending on what you're looking for. I bought 1 pair on 6pm.com for less than half price, too.

It depends on what your problem is. I tried Vionics and hated them. I can only wear Alegria, Croc Athens (in the house), and a running shoe the running store fit me in with custom orthotics. I think going to a shoe store (the Walking Store, Foot Solutions, etc.) so they can help would be most beneficial.

Ahnu makes some super cute shoes with great support. I really like my Taos sneakers too.

The key is to take all these suggested brands and go try on as many as you can. You have options to try. Once you find the one(s) that work for you you will be able to order them online, often for less than in a brick and mortar store.

The brands I’ve had good luck with are Munro, Mephisto, Vionic, Joseph Siebel (ballet flats). For dress shoes, I like AGL but they are pricey and I wait for sales. If you can visit a shoe store that specializes in walking shoes you will find other brands as well. The whole process is one of trial and error.

Not sure why the doctor isn't sending you to a specialist to get shoes custom made for you in this situation. Where I'm from if it's doctor prescribed it would be covered by your medical.

Have you seen a podiatrist? I would try on some of the brands mentioned but think you should go and get a detailed assessment from a foot specialist and, if necessary, get some custom orthotics made.

Fitflops shoes are super supportive, and i find some styles are not as hideous as most supportive shoes.
