I take melatonin and it does work for me. I also take valerian root along with it, that helps you stay asleep, that's a problem for me.

Mag and melatonin also help me. My friend makes some all-natural products and just created this "dream cream" she calls it that has mag in it and it has helped me.
When I do take melatonin, I have to take it when I'm IN bed. I can't take it and piddle around the house. Once I feel that little hint of drowsiness, I shut my eyes and ride the sleep train.
I do occasionally have to take something stronger and my go to is klonopin. I don't love taking it but if I've had several sleepless nights in a row or I've had a really mentally exhausting day at work or a difficult case, I go ahead and take the klonopin.
I'm a professional insomniac probably due to years of night shift work. It definitely doesn't come easily for me. I do hope you get some relief soon. I know how taxing it is when you can't sleep.

Melatonin is awful for me. I feel so groggy the next day, it isn't worth it. I found this about 6 months ago and really like it! I don't take it every night - maybe 2x a week if I need it. Works really well for me! --> Ateril

Melatonin or Kirkland sleep aid (very cheap) work excellent for me.

None of that stuff works for me. And I don't like taking prescription sleeping meds. So I have not slept more than 3 hours at a time since I was pregnant with my youngest, and he turns 27 next month! I average about 5 hours of sleep per night on a good night, and after all these years, I'm used to it.
I went to a sleep clinic years ago, and apparently it's a learned habit for me, due to circumstances the first few months after DH was born. They told me I had to break that habit, but didn't tell me how to do it.
Sorry, I'm no help.

There is an amazing app called relax and sleep well by Glenn Harrold. Glenn, lavender lotion or being diffused, an eye mask and a dark room and every person I've shared a hotel room with raves about how well they sleep!

Maybe check your diet. I find I get horrible insomnia when I eat gluten but it might be something else for you.

Melatonin works for me. My only issue is sleeping past 4:30am. No matter what time I go to bed I’m up by 4:30.

I have zero trouble falling asleep, but staying that way is sometimes a real struggle for me. I was recently prescribed klonopin for ocular oscillation and have been trying to figure out a good dosage to take during the day because the side benefit of this stuff is that it helps me STAY asleep. OMG. I haven't slept this well in years. Literally, not only do I fall asleep, but I don't wake up if I take it at night. Of course, if I am always asleep, I miss the benefits for which it is intended, so I am playing with the dosages for now to see what works best.

Of course, if I am always asleep, I miss the benefits for which it is intended, so I am playing with the dosages for now to see what works best. My problem has never been falling asleep either. It is the staying that way that has become an issue. I have taken 0.5mg for years. My MD prescribes me 1mg tablets with a 90 day supply and that lasts me over 6 months. I only take it when I am pretty sure I'm not going to sleep. When I'm stressed I take it more often and I might have to take a full tablet once in a while. The only time I take a full tablet is if I am off the next day. I have also used Belsomra. My doc gave me some samples but I haven't been back since I tried it. I really like that med and may ask for it next time I see him whenever that may be. It has a very short half-life so I can take it at 1am if needed but never feel drowsy or foggy the next day. It blocks neurotransmitters in the brain so I don't stay up with my brain reeling all night. I do keep a notepad in the nightstand and I write down my worries and thoughts if that is what is keeping me awake. It works sometimes but not every time. The absolute best thing for me is getting some type of physical activity / exercise. If I can get my swim in, I will sleep like the dead! I just can't get to the pool after a 12 hour shift. SaveSave

Generic benadryl. Cheap and effective.
My dr says it is completely safe and non-addictive. I take it nearly every night.

I can fall asleep but sometime in the last year I started not being able to sleep past 6:30 (or earlier)no matter what time I go to bed... and if a noise wakes me up at 3 am, can't go back to sleep...
I took Melatonin once (stupidly) to try to fall back asleep. So I had bizarre dreams but I wasn't asleep, it was so freaky I haven't taken it since. I guess if you take it to fall asleep the first time it might work better...
