My SIL gave me a big container full of buttons that came from her grandmother. I would love to make her something using some of these buttons, as a thank you and as a remembrance. Any ideas?

GREAT ideas in the link above. If you make it in the shape of a heart, you can leave it out all year ! I'm thinking of making one with my mother's and aunt's old pins.

I did something similar to this. I used hot glue and glued ivory and white buttons up about 1/3 of the way on a battery operated candle. It really turned out pretty.

Buy or make a thick chipboard letter for your first or last name initial. Paint it with acrylic paint in the color of your choice. Glue buttons all over it until the front is totally covered. Hang it on your wall.
Someone here had linked up the cutest button flowers a long time ago. The buttons are threaded onto wire stems and become the blossom part of the flower. Put several in a small vase.
Sew them onto the front of a decorative pillow.
String them onto embroidery floss or heavy pearl cotton string and make them into garlands for your Christmas tree.
Cover the entire top of a small accent table with them, then pour resin over the whole top of the table to completely seal them to it.
Do a search for button crafts on Pinterest, you'll get more results than you'll know what to do with!

I stayed at a house last week where the bedside table lamp shades were decorated with buttons. Looked very good.

Someone gave me a super cool bee button with peridot looking eyes. It's very pretty. It was a shank button, so I cut the shank off and sanded it and attached it to a ring base. I love it! I get compliments every time I wear it.
You could also make a brooch. If there are tiny buttons. Something like the button heart posted above on a tiny scale that she could wear on her coat, much as her grandmother would have back in the day.

thanks for all the great ideas. I found this on Etsy. Do you think if I find a embroidery wreath pattern and add the buttons after would it look okay?
