For me, the most important features is being able to take great pictures and videos!
I love taking pictures. I used to carry around a point and shoot camera with me everywhere I went. I was in heaven when I got my first iPhone! LOL! Now, I upgrade my phone only because they keep improving the camera!

It needs to be fast on the internet and take good pics. That's all I really care about. Probably I could list a lot more things that I don't notice right now but would miss a lot if I didn't have them anymore.
Basically I want to get on here, fb, IG, Amazon, Pandora, gmail, and a handful of other sites/apps. I want to be able to Google anything and get immediate results, and I need navigation and pictures. Audiobooks are good. I don't use the Kindle feature and I don't like watching videos on here though I will if I'm trapped waiting somewhere.
ETA I forgot about my calendar, fabulous for keeping track of doctor and vet appointments and setting reminders. I also like when my phone stalks me and warns me about traffic jams and road work.

I still have an iPhone 5 and never update it.
I am not a technology/gadget person.
I want to be able to get on the Internet and that's about all I care about.
I don't use the calendar, I don't read on a device, I don't use my phone for music, I don't download apps, I still carry a separate camera.

I also like when my phone stalks me and warns me about traffic jams and road work. It is kind of scary how your phone stalks you and anticipates where you are going. As soon as I get in the car my phone tells me how long it will take me to get home, like how does it know I am going home!

camera, expandable memory, headphone jack
i broke down and bought a new phone without a removable battery and samsung had better hope that doesn't come back to bite me in the ass, because this will be my last samsung if this battery doesn't last me at least 4 years.

I've never known any phone to have a battery last four years, to be honest. They get so slow and won't hold a charge. Both Samsung and iPhone (we're a dual household here ) Mainly I can't stand when the OS slows down, which happens without fail at the 2 year mark.

Needs to function reliably. My Samsung galaxy s5 has for three years so far! Ds in the same time frame has been through three iPhones-nothing he did, the iPhone is just garbage.

I just picked up my new phone yesterday. I had an iPhone 6 and went for the 8 plus for the camera. That is the top of my priority list.
I also love how fast it is... I didn't realize how slow my 6 was getting.

Pretty good camera, expandable memory, and big enough for my old eyes to see on (but not big like a tablet). A user-replaceable battery would be nice but I don't see that very much anymore. I know I can crack the case and replace the battery but it would be nice if it was easier than that.

I always carried a P&S camera in my handbag everywhere I went, because I have been doing P365 or something similar for about 8 years. A few years ago when I first started doing 1SE I still had an old iPhone 4, and the photo and video quality were crap, so I was still carrying the P&S around. 2 years ago upgraded to a Samsung S5 which is better quality, but still well short of what is available now. The phone itself is still fine, but I want to upgrade to an S8 or the iPhone X, purely because of the camera.

I expect my phone to make phone calls and text. That is about it. I prefer a stand alone gps for navigation because I like a much larger screen but don't want a phone screen as big as my prefered gps screen.

And my point was that if a battery can't last that long, it should be removable so that I can buy a $40 replacement rather than having to buy a whole new phone. I don't need or want a new phone every 2 years.

I can do about 90% of my job on my iPhone, so I need it to be blazing fast, reliable, have a ton of storage, good battery life, large screen. I also love photography, so a good camera is important to me, though not as much as the business aspects. I have a nice separate camera that I use a lot, but since my phone is *always* on me, ti does get used for photos and videos a lot too.

hands down, battery life. i refuse to carry a back up battery because my phone dies by noon. Samsung, i'm talking to you. as much as i loved my galaxy, the battery life was shit so i begrudgingly got an iphone. i'm not gonna life, their batter life is pretty stellar.

Make calls, take photos, gps navigation, look stuff up online, process credit cards, track where my kid's school bus is, check the weather. I'm sure there are other things I need my phone to do but this stuff is off the top of my head.

Definitely the camera, but the battery life is important too!

First thing for me is screen size, I can’t see small print anymore. Good pictures, texting, internet, and of. course all my apps, are the other things I would want. I’m sure the apps I use can be founded on most any smartphone. I have FaceTime, but never use it, DH has an Android phone.

Well the calculator on my phone won't add more than 20 mumbers...which is kind of annoying when counting money for a fundraiser...so either I need to carry a calculator or look for a phone with a better calculator.
Other than that I don't need much... the calculator and the volume when using the gps not being loud enough have been my main complaints.
