And Disco Duck came on.
The only reason I could come up for that song is drugs. Lots and lots of drugs.
My Monday morning musings...
Yours?

Haha!!
Another one that must have been influenced by drugs, must be "Muskrat Love"

I would permanently delete that station from my pre-set button! Actually, most of the music is really good, classic rock. They just play the novelty songs occasionally.

DH was having an MRI and supposed to hold his breath at one point. The exact point Kung Fu Fighting came on! He almost lost it.

We listen to it occasionally and recently "Seasons in the Sun" came on. My 14 year old was like: "this was on the regular radio? Who wants to become depressed when they are listening to the radio?" I had forgotten about that song - it's the most melancholy thing ever.

Long hair being seen as an anti-War/Pro-love statement. I grew up listening to the soundtrack- my parents went to see it live.

I loved Wildfire - the song about the horse who dies in a storm. But I was a horse-obsessed elementary school girl. What adult thought that was a good song topic, I’ll never know.

The other songs my 14 year old can't believe were hits are "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree" (her snark: "what was this, the 1870s?"), "I am Woman" (we had a nice long talk about the women's movement) and "Run Joey Run."

How could I leave out "Having My Baby?" I almost turned it off, I was too embarrassed to have her hear it. I can't even believe that song was popular. It's so cringe inducing.

Ode to Billy Joe - a song that was turned into a made-for-tv movie. Both bad.

This thread is making me shudder. But I can't resist adding my all-time most hated song - Jam Up and Jelly Tight. Yes, it was popular, and luckily I haven't heard it played, even on classic pop radio.

Okay well I never saw the musical Hair, and didn't pay much attention to it. And being a young Canadian teenager, none of those things were on my mind. So now that I googled it, it makes a lot more sense.

The movie version of the musical is worth a watch on Netflix, if you ever want to see a cheesy production - but the commentary on the Vietnam war, etc., is much clearer once you see it in its entirety.

LOL, OP. Novelty songs were really popular for awhile, but Disco Duck cam along after the real heyday was over as far as I can recall. Maybe they were trying to revive the trend?

i listen to 70's on 7 too and always wonder why Sirius doesn't have a dedicated Disco channel? or do they? it just seems weird that they have every other genre out there but Disco. not 70's songs, but pure Donna Summer, Saturday night fever, Bee Gees disco.

I would listen to that. I listen to 80s on 8 more, and the Pac man song comes on occasionally - usually during a countdown.
