So they've one upped themselves.
Since so many houses flooded during Harvey, there has been an influx of insurance people, FEMA inspectors, trash pickers, and contractors moving around the neighborhoods.
This has the paranoid people on high alert. All "strangers" are potential criminals to them.
Over the weekend, a woman noticed some men photographing houses from their car. She felt threatened by this behavior, jumped into her pickup truck, chased them down, swerved in front of them, blocked the street with her truck so they couldn't get by, and called the police to have them arrested for illegal photography. Obviously when the police got there, she had to move her truck and the men were able to leave.
She fancies herself a "neighborhood protector" vigilante of some sort. But doesn't understand or care that the men weren't breaking any laws by photographing in a public space, and by unlawfully detaining them without cause, she in fact was breaking the law. And she proudly brags about how she'll do it again.
These hyped up paranoid nuts fucking scare me. They brag about how well armed they are all the time. Somebody is going to get shot.
And on a happy note, we got to take a look at the new house Sunday. Harvey delayed the renovations and our move, but we'll be out of this town before Christmas.
Counting the weeks...

If there are more like her I'm not surprised you can't wait to move. Hope it goes well for you.

Some people's experiences after Katrina put into context this over-response. My neighbors when we lived in Louisiana put new plumbing in their house one night and it was all stolen the next. People sometimes feel terrified that what little they have may also be taken away. This is a normal reaction. Not always justified or comfortable but very normal.
