I have loved my Canon Selphy for several years. It’s compact, very easy to use, and the paper/film is easy to come by at several stores and online. But I’d really like a printer that can do true 4x6 prints. Any recommends. I’d also love if it was the film transfer versus ink printer.

The obvious answer is Epson's PM-400 which everyone raves about and is the usual upgrade from the Selphy. It's still compact, easy to use albeit not a dye-sub printer. You will get true 4x6 prints with it. And you can even go up to 5x7. I don't own it but you can search for the many threads on here in which Peas express their love for it. It's only available in North America but since you appear to be from Oklahama, that's not a problem for you.

Yep, the Epson PM-400! I had the selphy but I hated it. Only used it a couple of times. The prints weren’t great and the fact that it’s not true 4x6 ticked me off. Two things that I adore about the Epson is the fact that you can use ANY photo paper that you like and that it prints as large as 5x7! The quality is far superior to the selphy and I’ve never had a single issue with clogging. It’s an investment but totally worth it!

Okay so one more question. How many prints does the ink give? I liked with the thermal film I know exactly how many prints I’ll get. 108 prints for $27

Also what's great about the PM-400 is that you can use any brand photo paper. I get mine from Canon when it goes on sale for a crazy low price.

I love the PM-400 too.
Best Buy sells the T320 ink/paper bundle for $33 + tax. So pretty close to the Selphy price.

I really like my Canon Pixma (I think mine is the MG-7200?). I have a tray just for my 4x6 prints and another tray for my larger 8.5x11 paper.

I have an Epson Expression that also prints beautiful pictures. The problem I find with it is that it eats up the ink. I have the Selphy and I'm really not that crazy about it. The only reason I got it was because it was free with ink packs purchase. I'm trying to use up the rest of my ink packs on a fairly large project for DD's grad gift. I also have my Epson Charm. I love love this printer and it's my go to for quality prints. I have quite a few ink packs to use up for vacations and my DD's last four years of cheer. After they are gone I may look into the PM 400. I like that it prints 5x7.

And I can select print borders when I do 4x6. I mostly use Picasa, my iPhone or the Pic Stitch app. I haven't mastered borders on my 3x4. I know it can be done with Photoshop but I am too lazy to learn.

Looks like you can set up your own templates there too, perhaps? yes, you can print borderless or with white border - it's an option under printer settings (check the box for borderless, uncheck for white border)

I will edit (and resize as needed)in pic tap go most often, then use picframe to put my photos together, save to my camera roll, and then print using the epson app. The epson app works great for me (iPhone) and makes it so easy to do everything from my phone wherever I am in the house. On the rare occasion that I use my big camera or need to print something that isn't on my phone any longer, I use picmonkey to edit and collage the photos. Super easy too.
