I’ve shared in other posts that I purchased a vacation home this spring. I think it might be nice to have some sort of “system” that would allow me to control many things from my main home—turn lights on and off, change the temperature, perhaps have a security camera, and I’ve even seen front door handles with a numeric code for entry where you can change the code from afar. Does anyone have something like this 8molemented in their home? Any suggestions? I’m a rube when it comes to this stuff, so speak slowly and with small words, please.

I know that there are companies that you can hire to set up your entire house for you if you don't want to try to do this yourself. They probably also have lots of ideas and suggestions for products that I would not even know existed. I knew someone that started a business in this field about 15 years ago, and they are still thriving, so it appears that some people feel the need to have a professional do it all for them. I know I would, just because I don't know what all is available. I'm not afraid to the technical things at all. I'm the one who has always done all the setup of our home theater and computer systems. I just know that I don't know what all is available. Maybe you can set up a consultation with a company like this to see what the options are. Then if you want to, do your own installation. If you would feel better with the company, go that route. I do know that when I get settled in my new place, I want to install a smart doorbell setup that allow you to answer the door from your phone. You are able to see and speak to the person at your door, turn lights on, take video or still photos of them, and they don't know that you are not talking to them from inside the house. There has been too many times in my life that I have been stuck at home waiting for a repair company to come. If I was able to go do my errands and talk to them via my phone when they arrived, I could tell them to start unloading and that I would be there in a few minutes.
