I love Bo Bunny. It is just me in scrapbooking. I find this news very disappointing but realize that Jan might want/need to retire and wants to do something else. I loved their papers, stickers, embellishments, stamps and anything else I am forgetting. I didn’t love every line but I did love so much. Sigh.

They wouldn't be able to get away with this in my country. We have tons of rules about business monopoly and companies have been refused the right to purchase another business if the law thinks they're owning too much of the market. The US has laws about monopolies too. But realistically, I think anyone who decided to apply them to a hobby market, a declining hobby market, would probably get a lot of negative publicity.

I have mixed feelings about this. Overall, I suppose I am glad that BoBunny existed for as long as it did as an independent brand and provided crafters with awesome designs and products for so long. I think it's wonderful that in this day and age a small business person is able to retire successfully. Well crap. I'll admit Bo Bunny can be hit or miss for me but I appreciate they offer an aesthetic that is different from the AC homogenised brands. BoBunny was my absolute favorite right around 2008-2011 or so. From then on I have found I like fewer and fewer of their designs to the point where this past year or so I haven't really even bothered looking for their new releases to see them. But, like you, I can absolutely appreciate the fact that they are DIFFERENT from everything else that is currently available.

I have always been gracious about AC taking over everything since they saved a lot of our friends and favorites from falling into desperate straights when the recession hit. Wow, this BoBunny one really hurts. It is like Sassafrass Lass closing all over again. Dear BoBunny I hope you made out like a bandit in this deal. Crossing fingers for you. I am sorry you all had to make that decision. Wishing you many good well wishes and sending happy luck your way for your new adventures.
There is a talk that Ranger is monopolizing the business too. I think in the next few years that Ranger & American Crafts are going to be the dominant forces in this industry. I have such mixed feelings about this. I don't have anything against either company. Ranger has been around since the 1920's & I have a lot of respect for that. Really you have to respect a company that survived a Great Depression and Great Recession. American Crafts played smart business when a lot of other business sectors played stupid and lost everything, especially in the recession. I respect AC for being smart and keeping our industry alive by thinking of new forward innovations but also still keeping it traditional.
I am also sad so many of the smaller scrapbook and paper crafting industries are having to go this route to provide their brands with sustainability and security. I hope someday that small paper crafting business can be a dominant force again or least play side by side evenly with the dominant forces in the industry.

You know what I just realised? There goes BoBunny's acid and lignin-free paper. I know quite a few scrappers don't care about those aspects but people who are wanting to create long-term family memory books will have to look elsewhere (and there aren't many companies left offering this type of paper).

And they really ARE gone... Clicked on their Blog this morning and nothing has been posted since October 5th. Many of the links to their design team members' blogs or sites are also broken. I DID find a lovely process video for a beautiful fall page on the link to Angela Tombari's "I need confetti" blogThe process video is further down the page.

So, so grateful that we at least have some non-AC brands available in Europe.

I'm still fairly new to stamping/card making. What's with the hate for American Crafts, besides their apparent cornering the market in the scrapbook/card making industry? I can't say I've bought anything consequential from them except for a glitter collection and some paper packs (which I actually like, it's nice and thick).

I'm still fairly new to stamping/card making. What's with the hate for American Crafts, besides their apparent cornering the market in the scrapbook/card making industry? I can't say I've bought anything consequential from them except for a glitter collection and some paper packs (which I actually like, it's nice and thick). They're notorious for poor quality. They produce things as cheaply as possible. They promised to maintain the quality of WRMK's albums (because until that point, the Project Life albums were the only ones they were making and they were/are utter shit) after acquiring them and that didn't happen. The old ones can stand up to everyday handling, whereas the new ones branded under WRMK...well if you accidentally bump it too hard against anything, it leaves a permanent mark (press lightly with a fingernail and the indent will stay). The offerings are cookie cutter, so every line under each brand has the same types of selections: paper, paper pad, thickers, ephemera, puffy stickers, flat stickers, etc...and over time, the collections no matter what brand they are from all start to have the same feel to them because the designs are done in house, not necessarily by the designer's name that is on the label...sure they contribute ideas, but when it comes to the final say, that's in AC's hands. That means, for example, one of the lines (I think it was go now go) from Shimelle wasn't meant to have ANY pink in it, but because AC wanted it, pink there was. They also rush to the market. WRMK used to be known for high quality tools and now they are produced without proper R&D and are crap. The 3x4 rounded and square punches are TERRIBLE...just absolutely awful. Almost every tool released from American Crafts is awful...even the corner rounder for the Project Life brand sucks. The EK Success made one available through Stampin' Up was great, however. They just don't put the same effort into their offerings that other (smaller) companies do.

I'm so sad....I love BoBunny particularly the dot lines for backgrounds.....so many wonderful colors and nice and thick. It gave you a choice to use the dotted background or the colorwashed side ......I moved away from solid cardstock with this line...big ole sad face!!!

I just came here to post the same notice. American Crafts has taken over the world. I am not at all happy about it. i can understand how you feel but i would rather that the brand survive under new ownership than to disappear completely like others have.

You know what, you are absolutely right papersilly. I too cringe at the thought of AC taking over another brand, but if the alternative is to lose BoBunny, I am glad that they found a home. BoBunny sells really well in my neck of the woods, so I hope that they keep on the existing designers, and maybe, just maybe, they will keep to their unique look.
