This is something I noticed recently that I thought I'd ask since we're talking about American Crafts buying up everything. What is AC's relationship to Recollections? Recollections is the Michael's store brand, isn't it?
I was shopping patterned paper at Joann's recently, their super-thin single sided sheets which mostly seem to been from American Crafts. One cute baby girl print with clouds and critters caught my eye. Later I was in Michaels to see what they had, and I saw that exact same paper with a Recollections branding strip on it.
I actually took photos of both to compare and see if they were just a similar design that someone had ripped off, but they appeared to be identical (although the paper weight might not have been).
So is this a case of Recollections licensing a design from AC? Do they often do that? Is one brand better quality paper than the other or are they exactly the same except for the branding strip?

Yes, Recollections is a brand of Michaels. I believe Recollections purchased the 'rights' to some of AC collections to be remade, but I don't recall where I heard that. But yeah, the recollections brand will be thinner.

In addition to the paper quality being less, I've found some of the colors to be off on the Recollections version.

My memory could be faulty, I think Recollections produced a recycled My Minds Eye collection 4-5 years ago. Assuming they've bought the images, it's beneficial to all parties- including some crafters who have different paper needs and like thinner paper.

I wondered about their relationship to My Minds Eye as well. My local store carries a few MME 6x6" paper pads - it's the only non-Recollections brand 6x6 you can get there. So it seems like they have some kind of special connection.
