I have seen this and I am in love. I cant spend $200 on one, my car just broke down and I need a new engine. This is the worst timing ever, my daugther's Quinceañera is next month! Has anybody here made one and would like to share some instructions? Do they use a half mannequin/bust or a full size one? And what I mean by that is the ones that have no back. I keep looking at pictures but can't see the back of any of them. I am sure I could figure it out if only I could see. Thanks in advance! NOT MY PICTURE!

You should be able to get away with half a bust. Honestly, this looks like a very doable DIY. It'll take a bit of measuring and possibly adapting with a bit of cheap wood (to get the bust to sit properly on the tree tiers). You don't even need to use fancy finishes for connecting the tiers since it'll be hidden by a piece of fabric! Half a bust, three cheap (but sturdy enough) rounds, a few blocks of wood and screws, some fabric and you're done. You might even be able to score half a bust for free from a lingerie/swimwear store. It will only be half half a bust (ha!) since they're the kinds they hang up on rails and racks but if you get half-circles of wood for the stand itself, you can just display the stand against a wall. Problem solved. Don't spend precious cash on party décor when you need to tend to important things like an engine. Keep it as low budget and DIY as possible. If you can track down one of those busts/half a bust/swimwear rack display busts for free, you're off to a great start to make this a super cheap project! Good luck and happy birthday to your daughter in advance.

I can't see the photo- my comment might not apply- Michaels has large styrofoam torsos in the Halloween craft section. I didn't get close to them, do not have a need, they looked like typical torsos not skeleton or spooky.
I hope I can see the pic, and please let us know what you make.

It looks to me like it is set up so you would see the back, with cupcakes all around. But if it was placed in a corner and the cupcakes were only on the front and sides you could probably get away with one that doesn't have a back, and it would still look stunning. It would partly depend on the space you used and how the tables were set up.
I've never seen anything like it before. It's very impressive. I'm sure you could DIY a version that would be at least 80% as impressive for a lot less than $200.

Another option would be to cut out just the silhouette shape of the top of the body out of a couple layers of corrugated cardboard, hot glue them together to make it thicker and sturdy enough to stand up and just cut a slit in the center of the cardboard rounds for the dress part to slide it down the middle like in the video Don linked. You could paint it black or a solid color, or cover it with inexpensive fabric from the clearance rack and use matching fabric to cover the skirt.

I was going to get a torso mannequin/ form for a project for DD. That's what they are using it looks like. You can find them on Amazon.
