Hi I'm new to the boards. I'm glad to see people are using Kiwi Lane so I can ask this question 🙂 I have some templates that I bought quite a while ago and haven't used yet what is the best and or easiest way you've used to cut the paper does anyone use an exacto knife or anything like that?

I've never tried an Exacto knife, but it might work. I usually just use my Cutter Bee scissors, but I'm one that likes to fussy cut, so it's pretty easy for me!

I have watched them demo them on You Tube and I don't understand why they don't flip the templates over and trace them on the back of the paper, seems like it would cut down on the stray pencil marks that they say to use the inking to cover.

Or just use an artist eraser to erase the marks without messing up the paper. DD gets them for really cheap from HL- they are the stretchy gray kind that are kinda like silly putty.

I agree that would be smarter for some papers. If you want to get a particular part of the design of the paper into the section covered by the template, though, putting the template on the front does make sense. As to the OP's question, an exacto knife can accidentally cut into the template, damaging it. Not something I would recommend. Most people use the templates for tracing onto the paper with a #2 pencil, then cut with scissors, and finally erase the pencil marks or cover by inking the edges.

I use mechanical pencils to trace as they maintain a sharp point and I very lightly trace. I've traced on the side I wanted to use and the opposite side of the paper.
I do usually ink the edges anyways just to have a little more definition between the paper layers. I think it pops more visually especially when using patterned paper. The inking also hide any cutting mistakes even when I veer off the line a little bit.
I wouldn't use an exacto knife as I think it would cut into the template.

I have flipped the paper over at times, but often I don't bother because I think the inking of the edges helps pop out the design more.
