I was working on my Christmas cards last weekend and decided I wanted to add a glittery snow effect to part of the card. I saw someone use Rock Candy glitter but when I tried it, I didn't get quite what I am looking for. It's ok, but it's not opaque enough and doesn't really look like snow to me. I see a couple of products out there, but I'm wondering what is the best one to use for this type of technique.

I will be looking here for ideas, too. On a white background, I have been using Crystal Effects liquid glue and Nuvo white glitter this year. If I am applying over a colour, I use Nuvo crystal drops white where I want the snow, and then apply the glitter. Had some glittery pastes last year, but they have all dried up

What about Mica Snowflakes? I am thinking Tim Holtz made some but not sure.

What about Mica Snowflakes? I am thinking Tim Holtz made some but not sure. You can buy mica snowflakes anyplace for decorations. Are you looking for the type that is basically just a rough texture that sparkles? That would have to be some kind of glue you paint on and then press the glitter into it.

I thought of the Mica Snowflakes as another option some one could use as snow. Since the OP wasn't happy with what she was using. I personally wasn't looking for any, thank you for the info hopefully this might work for her.

I've never heard of mica snowflakes... I'll have a look. And yes, I'm looking for something that looks like snow, sparkles, but doesn't add a whole lot of bulk becasue I'm using it for my Christmas cards that will be mailed. I'm finding that the Rock Candy distress glitter I'm using looks just like glitter (go figure) and not at all like snow. As I said, it's too opaque. I saw someone post "Aleene's Glitter Snow" something else I've never heard of... I think this may be what I'm looking for but I'm not sure where to buy it... I'm in Canada and for some reason stuff like this isn't the easiest to find locally! If Michael's carries it, I'm all set otherwise I think I'll have to order online.

I have used the Prima Snowflake Paste. It is quite opaque and glittery if applied thickly. I used it through a stencil and was happy with results. If one wanted even more sparkle I think you could add some additional glitter on top. In terms of longevity of the product, I bought my pot a year ago, and it was still fine when I opened it up recently, but it still had the foil seal. I think I will need to make an effort to use some of it up on my Christmas cards and tags this year as it might be dried up by next year.

Are you familiar with Wink of Stella brush glitter pens? One of my Christmas cards has an embossed snowflake on the front and I used a clear marker to add glitter to it. It's quite sparkly. I've also used this pen to add sparkle to snowdrifts, snowmen, etc. I typically use the clear or silver pens although I admit to having several other colors.

Yes, love Wink of Stella glitter brush pens but I want more texture. I actually used my Wink of Stella pen to add sparkle to another part of the card. The rock candy glitter is good but a little too transparent.

I got some of this Diamond Dust with the MFT Snowglobe kit, but I haven't tried it yet. It sounds like the advantage over glitter is that it's non-static. You can look at the kit video for more info that might be helpful. I'm with you, and have been hoping to find a good snow for shaker cards. They are out of stock right now, and closed to move their warehouse this week, so if you need it in a hurry you might be out of luck. I'll let you know what it's like when I get into using my kit. I'm still on Halloween at this point.

I saw this today and thought of this thread, streetscrapper and grammadee : At the 5:00 min mark she makes glitter show with texture paste and glitter

Thank you FurryPea! I was thinking about trying something like that! I ended up buying snow flakes at Michaels today, which are iridescent sprinkles you can use for craft projects. Turns out that it is not even close to what I'm looking for. After I watched the video I decided to experiment with the texture paste and glitter. I opened the drawer where I keep my texture past and low and behold I found something in the drawer that might be exactly what I'm looking for. It's Faber-Castell Glass Bead Glitter Gel... it's white with glittery sparkles. I'm not sure when I picked that up, but hopefully it will do the trick!

What about German glass glitter?
