After having to pack a large chunk of my stash/tools away in storage I'm finding that I'm missing my Big Shot. I have a Cameo but I still miss the depth and dimension that a manual die-cutting machine/die provides. I went on a search on how I could still use the couple of dies that I didn't pack away and saw this. Has anyone tried it? Hello rolling pin!

I'm left wondering why we have all bothered buying a die-cutting machine now... I guess you'll need the mat to act as a sturdy piece of foam and a proper rolling pin (maybe those lightweight plastic ones won't, pardon the pun, cut it). But it seems like it's definitely worth a try to me.

I think that won't cut my TH dies, so I think my BS is justified.

I had back surgery this summer and I like the idea of not having to haul out my Zipemate with it's crappy shims. I also have a marble rolling pin. I could make quick work of one of those dies!

Hmmm interesting. I have my Big Shot standing out all the time but if I ever lost it for some reason - good to know!

I wonder whether that might not get old, fast? It certainly appears that it would do the trick, though.

I was thinking, hey I could still scrap if the power went out, except my Big Shot doesn't use electricity so that idea is out

That die looked like it was a stitched scallop. I didn't notice that the stitches were pressed into the paper.

That die looked like it was a stitched scallop. I didn't notice that the stitches were pressed into the paper. It was, but I couldn't see the stitching either (I checked on a full screen view too). In one of the comment replies on YT she said it won't work with intricate designs and it sounded like you wouldn't get the details like the stitching, and that it takes quite a bit of elbow grease.

I used to use a rolling pin with embossing folders before I had a machine. It worked pretty well. Seems like die cutting could be pretty challenging.

Maybe run a car tire over it. Don't say that! I accidentally ran over a FedEx package last week that was left in front of my garage door

I think I'll keep my big kick. I put off making cannelloni and lasagna just to avoid rolling out the dough. msliz, I agree with don.

I'm going to have to try this! I have a Cameo too but no regular die cutter. I've received some dies in kits and stuff so I was thinking one of the small versions like a Sidekick would be a good idea. If I can make this work, then maybe I won't bother!

At first I was a little discouraged because I was figuring it all out. The first surface I tried was a bit soft so I moved to a wooden stool. That had the benefit of both the hard surface and being able to get my whole body over the rolling pin. I foolishly tried to cut out both trees at once. It might have worked out okay if I'd had them farther apart on the paper but I'm a frugal New Englander. LOL Once I got the trees cut out, I tried again with a leaf shape by itself and it cut out in about 3 roll overs. I suspect the leaf may be a better quality die too. The interior vein of the leaf came through just fine as well.

I have a Cameo too but no regular die cutter. me, too- and I've seen some dies (and embossing folders) here and there on clearance racks, but never bought any of them, because I don't want to buy another machine. But I have a rolling pin already. I may have to try this, too. (once I shop for a couple dies, that is- lol!)

^^^ yes, but see, once it gets old, by THEN, I could justify it by saying "I have all these dies, so now I *need* the machine to get more use out of them..." LOL!! (kidding- I don't really have to justify anything- but would I use it (a die or embossing folder) any more often than once or twice, anyway? I'm basically just a tool junkie.

Clever repurposing. The rolling pin idea looks good but I'll stick with my Big Shot. And I'm sorry but using a pasta machine really did make me laugh. That actually looked like more work.
