I finished The Store by James Patterson last night. It was an easy read and I enjoyed it. I had no idea how it would end. I will start Proving Ground by Peter Blauner tonight. I have no idea what it's about. I picked it up off the NEW shelf at the library.

Two for me this week.
Odd Child Out — Nicely done novel with great dynamics and a mystery that keeps you guessing. 4/5 stars.
Allegedly — This started out so well with incredible potential. And then the last chapter happened. Le sigh. It fell flat and just didn't work for me. I was left with this feeling of, "Huh? What just happened?" The last sentence really made no sense. Even so, Jackson is an excellent writer. I look forward to more from her. Hopefully, she will mature as a writer. 3/5 stars.

"Sisterland" by Curtis Sittenfeld was really good. If you haven't read any of her books, I'd recommend her. I think this was a Pea recommendation on this thread. "American Wife," fiction based on George and Laura Bush, also by her, was excellent, one of my favorite reads last year.

Who We Were Before by Leah Mercer. After the death of their young son, a husband and wife take a trip to Paris in a last ditch effort to repair their marriage. Some sweet moments, but this one was a bit of a slog for me.

I finished Little Fires Everywhere, which I loved! Just started The Girl Who Takes an Eye For an Eye, continuing the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series. I am reading Little Fires Everywhere and am having trouble getting into it. I hear that many love it though. Maybe it gets better! Did you like it from the beginning or did you have to get into it a bit? Read The Marriage Pact and it was odd, but I liked it.

I finished two last week. First was Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. This was a great book about a part of history which I had no knowledge of. It tells about the immigration of Koreans into Japan and how they were poorly treated and struggled to survive while at the same time, their country was being torn apart into what we know today as North and South Korea. The book follows several generations of the same family as they make their way in Japan. A very good book that was maybe just a bit too long.
I also finished Turtles All The Way Down the new one by John Green. Another good John Green book! I enjoy reading his books because there is humor along with the serious topics. The book is about a girl Aza who, along with her friend, is trying to find out what happened to a rich guy who has disappeared. The dialog between Aza and her best friend, Daisy, literally made me laugh out loud several times. On the other hand, the way he wrote about mental illness made it so real and very scary to me. I worried about Aza the whole book! I really liked the book and have thought about it quite a bit since finishing. It was a very real look at mental illness and the hold it has on people.

Partly because I was super busy and it felt like I only had a few minutes at a time to read. By about 1/3 of the way in I started to really enjoy it.

That's how I have been, just a few minutes to read before bed. I find that I enjoy books more when we are on vacation and I sit and read at the beach all day! Good to know that it gets better!

A good book week for me-2 audios and 2 reads. I listened to Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen. It's one of her older ones, but I enjoyed the story. The next book I put on my hold list on Overdrive and I was at least 100 on the list so was a bit surprised when it said it became available- The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. I have to admit, I liked the title more than I liked the book . It was a quick and easy book, didn't get anything life shattering, but I'm nearing 50 so I'm pretty much settling into the art of not giving a fuck . Now maybe if somebody would have given this book to me a bit sooner, it would have been more beneficial. As the author was wrapping thing up in the last chapter, I liked the summary, but then it occurred to me that the band One Republic pretty much says the same thing in their song I Lived. And the next review is a tale of two YA books-one was cute and one was awesome. First the cute- Love and Gelato. I saw this on several lists this summer so when it went on sale I snagged it. It was cute and I'm having a hard time finding more words to describe it other than that. And it made me want to go out and get some gelato. Ha! The second, okay if you read YA, then you have to read this next one- What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum. She is the author who wrote the YA Tell Me Three Things which I totally loved and ended up preordering this book because I loved that one. But this one is even better. There are two main characaters-one a popular teen who has just lost her dad and the other a socially isolated teen who has high functioning autisism. No need to say more except that David will absolutely win you over. Anyone who has read Julie Buxbaum's previous books knows that she can really tackle YA as well as the most respected YA authors.

I really liked Tell Me Three Things so I just went to make sure I have this one on reserve and I do. But thanks for the great review, I will often get several books in at the same time and end up making choices on what I really want to read. I will make a point to read this when I get it, now!

I read:
Beartown by Fredrik Backman. 5/5 stars. I really enjoyed A Man Called Ove, but wasn't nearly as fond as the books that came after. I decided to read one last book and glad I did because I really liked Beartown. Great characters, setting, story, and themes. Happy to see additional books will follow because I would love to keep reading about some of these characters.
The Late Show by Michael Connelly. 3/5 stars. I've been meaning to read his Harry Bosch series, so took the chance to read his new series about a woman detective. The first outing was so-so, but I will read the next book.
Currently reading The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin. So far so good!

I am part way through an interview with John Green (Fresh Air) and he talks about his own OCD issues and how it informed his writing - probably why it feels so real! (I haven't read the book yet)

I read two books last week. One was very good, and the other had the most WTF ending ever. The good one was The Arrangement by Sarah Dunn. It's about a couple who decide to have a 6-month 'open marriage', and agree a set of rules for it. "No friends, no exes and absolutely no falling in love!" It was very well written, highly amusing in places, and the main characters were sympathetic. I really enjoyed it. 4.5/5
The other was Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough. All the positive reviews raved about the huge twist at the end, and how they didn't see it coming. The negative reviews commented on how the twist was unforeseeable because it made no sense. I agree with them. Let's just say that the book was described as a psychological thriller - which it was until the last chapter. Then it became something entirely different. It was a shame, becUse it was quite an enjoyable read up until then. 1/5.

Without giving anything away at the very end the author writes that this was her favorite of the books she has written and she can't get David the main character out of her mind. Although she has never written a sequel to any of her books I could totally see her continuing to write about him. Can't wait to hear what you think. Save

I finished two books last week.
Origin by Dan Brown. This one was just what you would expect - a page turner that you don't want to think too hard about. Somewhat unbelievable, and I think the ending was rather anti-climatic, but overall an enjoyable read.
Collared by David Rosenfelt. The latest in the Andy Carpenter series. A light mystery.

Its a thriller about a podcast that re opens a murder case.

Its a thriller about a podcast that re opens a murder case. I read this and rated it 4 stars. While it was enjoyable, it wasn't really all that memorable for me. I didn't write a GR review, and now I am struggling to even remember the details. And it's only been two months. Quite pathetic on my end! Added: I enjoyed The Late Show, but I missed Bosch. He'll be back soon. I have his upcoming release on hold at the library. I think it's called Two Kinds of Truth.Lisa

I jus finished The Silent Boy, by Lois Lowry to see if I wanted it added to my library’s YA/Juvenile Collection. I’m almost done with Out of My Mind, by Sharon Draper.
