I didn't catch what Deja said about being grabbed when she was talking to Randall in the ladies room --- a previous foster mother bought beauty magazines, but was ugly .... then something ... and then that's why I don't want to be grabbed ??
Can someone help me out ....
Oh .... and .... did we know about Jack's new complication before now? I didn't think so because of the why it was all presented ...

Thanks - I thought it would be some sort of abuse .. but didn't see how that would tie in with being grabbed

She said her foster dad would beat them with the magazines because they didn't leave bruises. And no, we didn't know Jack had a brother.

In some of the flashbacks to when Jack was at home with his father, wasn't there another male there? Maybe I'm getting shows mixed up. Would that be the brother, although they never mentioned it?
Haven't watched this week yet.

Yes, in a previous foster home, she was beaten with the magazines because they didn’t bruise as much - she doesn’t like to be grabbed because it brings back memories of abuse.
I believe Kevin may turn to alcohol since he can’t seem to get pain meds.
I got the feeling that when Jack was flashing back to when he was younger and when he was looking at the photos - that his brother may have died in Vietnam.

Aww Kevin reading Randall's notebook and it had don't bother Kevin, don't ask for Kevin's Gameboy, how sad he had to have notes to remind him what not to do around his brother.

I'm getting that Jack's brother was killed in Vietnam and he wasn't there with him, after telling him he would always be there. It gutted me because his brother as a child sounded so much like my 5 year old bespectacled grandson, Gabriel.
Let's talk about Kate's pregnancy. Of all the possible things that could go wrong with the pregnancy, she didn't even talk about the actual birth. She is so extremely obese that her labor has a high chance of being affected, and there is a higher chance of her needing a c-section. But with so much fat, surgery is also very high risk for her. I expect, if the pregnancy continues and she makes it to delivery, that the birth episode will be quite traumatic.

Kate being pregnant. Not happy with that story line. She has so much stress in her life already, without adding a possibly problematic pregnancy into the mix. Of course, that's what makes good tv. I wonder if they are going to have her with multiples.
That scene with Toby in the diner? It had the promise of being so good, then it wasn't. I was silently screaming at Kate to RUN! I wasn't a fan of Toby last season, and thought he was better this season. But it looks like he is here to stay.
It looks like Deja and Randall may have finally reached an understanding. I'm sure there will be some hiccups along the road, but I think she is coming around to him and accepting him as a father figure. I loved watching her try the shrimp and loving it. As for the grabbing, it sounds like her foster father grabbed the kids and hit them with a rolled up magazine. That's why she hates to be grabbed. I'm sure she's been hit without a magazine before too.
I don't remember Jack having a sibling. This is the first time they showed him as a child. I love how they keep adding layers on to this family. I think someone said once they reveal how Jack died, the show will end. I don't think so. There are so many possible story lines to keep it going. At least I hope so!

I have binge watched the first season and am current now in the last couple of weeks. I love the layers they keep showing us. Deja and Randall have hopefully turned a corner of trust at least there were small glimmers of hope showing. I think Jacks brother died in Vietnam, and his father has never forgiven him for not keeping him safe.

I think Jacks brother died in Vietnam, and his father has never forgiven him for not keeping him safe. I think it more likely that the father bullied the younger brother into joining the military, and Jack blames his dad for the brother's death. Also, I am already over Kevin's addiction storyline. So predictable and overdone.

I know a few obese women who have quite normal pregnancies. My high school Latin teacher had at least 6 children and she must have weighed 250-300 pounds. She worked up until the day she had them.
Every pregnancy is different.

Good observations everyone, especially the predictions about Jack and his brother, and possibly father interaction.
I am soooo rooting for Randall and Deja. I felt like last night was a little breakthrough. I can really relate to Randall's sensitivity and his "feeling too much". It's something you just can't help.
I agree on Kevin's addiction storyline -- done to death. Pick something else please.
And now for my weekly rant on Toby: EEeeeewwwww! Why can't you be normal dude?! Really, dancing around the diner, jumping behind the counter and hugging workers, pouring a jug of water over you ala Flashdance? I would have called the police on your ass.

Oh and one more thing, could Kate be an even bigger bitch than she was to the poor blonde girl at her therapy group? Talk about projecting your own insecurities onto someone else. Everyone has their own issues. Don't let your jealousy allow you to be cruel and unfeeling to someone else. Everyone has a battle they are fighting and it's not a competition for who is carrying the biggest cross. I don't like Kate either. <frownie grumpy face>

The scene with little Jack and his brother waiting outside the tavern was hard for me to watch. My dad and his brother grew up like that, waiting on the steps outside one bar or another for his dad to come out. Even after they were sent to live with a cousin, they went back to New Orleans every summer to visit their parents. My father said they spent those summers waiting for their dad to come out of the bar. He didn't come out. When they got old enough, they requested that their cousin adopt them and they stopped going to NOLA to visit.
Watching Jack say, "He's going to come out..." and all I could think was, "No, baby. He's not coming out." Oh, it just made me cry to think my dear sweet pops was that kid.

Every pregnancy is different. I won't speculate on the Kate's weight, but I'd venture to say she's well above 300lbs. And the character is also 37 which adds possible complications and since this is a drama series, they're going to trot every obstacle out they can imagine.

Internet has her weight at 399 and she had lost weight! I feel like the baby, boy or girl, will be named Jack in some form. Kevin's storyline is so pitiful as he is just not a likable character.

I'm over Kevin's addiction storyline too. Enough already. Kate just pisses me off. I'd be happy f the show was just about Rebecca and Jack and Randall and his family.

We sat in the car in front of the bar while he drank. Now I know why I was feeling a bit off yesterday after I watched it.....

Reading this thread, I'm wondering why I'm still watching the show. I could get my updates from the thread and that would be enough.
Oh, wait. Randall. I love Randall. Dang he got stuck with some sucky siblings, though.

I actually like Kevin's character a lot. His sense of humor is wicked. I don't like the storyline, though; it feels like a cliche. I guess they wanted to address the current opiate problem, but there is just too much drama in one show.

I love this show. I love, even the characters I don't care for, because that is real life. Not everyone in life is a Jack or Randall. It would be so boring if there weren't those cring worthy moments.
