I need a good, scary or creepy book suggestion

Stephen King short stories scare me waaaaay more than any of his books ever did.

Depending on what you're in the mood for, one of the books that creeped me out the most EVER is this one: Prey by Michael Crichton.

It was published in 2002 and is about nanobots- genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and how scary advances in technology could be if their inventors lost control of their inventions. I think it creeped me out so much because it was sort of plausible.

I agree and after Night Shift, which I did read twice, I have refused to read any more of them. I just don't need that level of creepiness in my head.

If you're looking for a full-length book, I'd say "It" by Steven King. Most of his books are not scary. This one definitely is.

As much as I love a good scary movie I don't seem to read too many of them. lol. But, one I do remember was "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King. It's old, and maybe part of its scariness was the circumstance where I read it...? It was during Thanksgiving vacation one year when I was in college. For some reason that year I decided to stay in the dorm and not go to the friends where I always went for that break (I lived too far to go home for just four days). I lived on the 1st floor but the dorm was on a hill and my room was on the hill side so my window wasn't ground level. Although vampires can fly so I'm not sure why that was a comfort. 

Anyway, there were only a few people rattling around this large dorm, and no one in my area. I had a single room that year which was good because it was small, which meant fewer places for something scary to hide. lol. So I started reading that book and then suddenly realized it was getting dark. I rushed out to the bathroom to get ready for bed so I could lock myself in the room for the rest of the night. I stayed up most of the night reading that book. I was convinced I heard scratching at the window. You could not have pried me out of that room for anything! lolol. Honestly, I think even if the fire alarm had gone off I wouldn't have left. If there truly was a fire I could have easily gone out the window and dropped down to the grass. 

I think I want to read this book again! lol

Salem's Lot is really creepy, I didn't sleep well after I'd read it! IT bored the pants off me.

My recommendation would be Bird Box by Josh Malerman ... I stayed up for an entire night to finish reading it   

It is very original and so well written

LOL I’ve read some of the books mentioned here long ago and barely remember the plots. Now that I’m older and find the nightly news scary enough, it’s probably for the best that I *don’t* remember them! 

I read this a couple of years ago, just checked Goodreads and I gave it one star!

The Death of Addie Gray by Amy Cross. POSSESSION. Young girl in a coma for 9 months and suddenly wakes up. But is it really her. Someone has control of her body. Just finished this week and enjoyed it.

Anyone else find their hold list at their local library suddenly got a bit longer?    I always do this with any of these book threads. 

I guess I'll be reading some horror books just in time for Halloween.
