Yesterday I had a very nice treat. A friend whom I hadn't seen in a while stopped by with a beautiful pumpkin. I love surprises like that. Unfortunately, she stopped by before I had started to bake and not afterwards. Then again, my cupcakes weren't stellar. I over mixed the batter. Today I have a lemon raspberry pound cake to serve to the hospital chaplain. She retired and moved to a beautiful area, but is visiting here. I think she's checking up on me. Tonight I'm going to make Tuscan bean stew, because YDS girlfriend is coming over to visit and she loves that dish. Seeing her always puts a smile on my face. What's on your menu? Have a great Thursday.

Tonight is a big night for my son. Every day (for the past two weeks) he asks, "Tonight will you make the sauce?" and I say no. Well, tonight I am making the sauce. This is the copycat McDonald's 1998 Mulan Szechuan dipping sauce for the chicken tenders we're talking about. <---there really aren't enough eyeroll smilies to suit me Here is the recipe in case anyone else has an OCD adult child who just wants 1998 Mulan Szechuan dipping sauce. Lord help me. And I guess I'd better go to Raley's and buy some vegetables. Unless we want to eat carrots again. ETA scrappert and anyone else interested in this recipe ... my son has decided that plum sake is the same thing as plum wine. He says to just use the plum wine. Whatever. I only half listen to him, anyway.

Glad to see you back Trixie Bender !!
Tonight I "think" I am going to make homemade chicken strips and crispy crowns. I "may" make that pumpkin pie I've been thinking about.
I "should" look at Lucy's recipe for the retro McDonalds dipping sauce to make with the chicken strips.

We are going to have baked spaghetti and garlic bread. If I feel ambitious I may make Halloween brownies (brownies with a marshmallow "ghost" on top... basically a marshmallow with eyes and a smile made out of chocolate chips). My daughter has been asking to help me make them, so if she can get through homework reasonably quick, we will work on those.

Last night I soaked beans from "Bob's Red Mill 13 bean soup". So tonight we are having the 13 bean and ham soup, spinach salad and for the youngins, corn bread.
My youngest wants me to make Auntie Anne's pretzels when he gets home from school.

I've been craving chili. Well, no one else wants it so I haven't made any thus far as my recipe feeds a crowd. But Hello Fresh had a chili dinner this week so I figured I would try it. I get my chili for two people. So there will be leftovers tomorrow for lunch. Yum! Everybody else is on their own.

LOL lucyg . I just read the recipe, too funny. Let us know how that goes with the plum sake... Plum sake was actually the only ingredient I didn't have on hand. I sent him to the store to buy some, but they didn't have any, either. So I'm combining Japanese plum wine and plain sake, and we'll see how that goes. I doubt I'll have the nerve to sample the booze.

For our dining pleasure this evening we will be enjoying fish gently sautéd in olive oil, a green salad, and fruit. The wind is blowing pretty hard again today and the temperatures are dropping on their way to the hard freeze and then snow is predicted tomorrow.....
Happy Thursday Everybody!

I have no idea. It's just DS and tonight as it's Men's Night at the golf club so I have to come up with something. We had pizza the other night so that's out. I could go to the Japanese food store and get something there. I am at a total loss. He is also picky and doesn't like a lot of things. Maybe I should make bbq chicken. That is easy and it tastes good. I think I will do that.

I'm home briefly before heading back to school. Tonight is our Family Trick or Treating night. The school is decorated, teachers are dressed up and standing outside their classrooms, and parents and students come trick or treating down the halls. It's a BIG deal. So much so, that there will be police there to control traffic. It's really crowded, but fun. My costume (a steal from Pinterest) is a giant shawl spider web and the spider web spells out "Some Pig." I always go as a book character.
Poor DH is on his own again, but as always is a very good sport about it.

Yesterday I went to the pot luck at our office only to realize they had sent out a follow up email that the date had been changed. Oops! Anyway it was all good because I got to see the people I wanted to see and stayed and chatted for about an hour. And they sure enjoyed my pralines! Tonight we're having chicken pot pie from Costco so DS will have leftovers for lunch tomorrow and be very happy about that

I will be going straight from work to see DS play cricket tonight. DSO will be cooking hot dogs and sausages for everyone (yuk). There is a better than even-money chance that I will be stopping on the way to pick up some Mashies from KFC. Mmmmmmmm Mashies! I have been waiting EIGHT LONG YEARS for KFC to bring back Mashies, and I want to make the most of them while they're available - sadly for a limited time only.

lucyg, You're the best mommy ever. leannec, I'm sorry that everyone is sick. I'm sending you hazmaat suit vibes. Hoping everyone feels better quickly. @bc2ba, It's wonderful that ds's girlfriend comes to see us. She is the daughter I never had and I'm thoroughly enjoying being a mom to her. AussieMeg, I, too want to know what is inside a mashie? It looks like mustard.
